Why did Bernadette wear sweatpants to meet Kirsten?

The night Bernadette picked Kirsten up for the fake Bobby party she was extremely under dressed. By all accounts Bernadette wanted to be accepted and friendly with Kirsten. So even if she made up the party just to hang with her you would think she would have dressed up a little.

Kirsten is the same person who mentioned Bernadette's sad ski gear. So with that in mind I really feel it was premeditated. She dressed in sweatpants because she knew what she wanted to do.

Between the butcher knife and the sweatpants, you just can't say this wasn't a first degree murder case. I believe Bernadette had snapped previously and had already made up her mind Kirsten had to go.

  1. After reading about the case for years, I truly believe that Kirsten's murder was premeditated by Bernadette. Police never did find evidence of the party that Bernadette was supposedly taking Kirsten to. Furthermore, it's highly unlikely that Bernadette would wear old sweats to a party, especially in Kirsten's presence since Kirsten had mocked Bernadette's clothing before. Finally, the knife. As a vegetarian myself, I do not believe for an instant that Bernadette's sister Virginia/Gina kept an 18" knife in the car for cutting vegetables. Maybe a tiny 3" or less paring knife, but definitely not a foot-and-a-half long knife. I believe that Bernadette took it with her purposefully that night and that Gina lied to cover up for her sister. That lie explains why Gina vehemently defends Bernadette to this day. Gina's reputation depends on it and if She did not in fact place the knife in the car, she is guilty of perjury, among other crimes like obstruction of justice.

  3. I have never understood the sweatpants...it really makes me feel that it was premeditated. Considering that Kirsten has made fun of her Skis you would think if she wanted to befriend Kirsten she would have dressed nicer. She could have put some extra clothes in the car to change into after her Dad walked home from her fake babysitting job. I wonder what was said in that car for 1/2 hour....we will never know and are only able to guess. Bernadette was obsessed with Kirsten and wanted to be her in every way. Can you imagine if someone wronged her or one of her children how she might react? Scary.

  6. Wonder what her children's friends parent would say or do if they knew of her disturbing past!

  7. I agree with the first anonymous comment. I personally think Bernadette had already snapped mentally and had taken the knife if she didn't get the reaction she wanted from Kirsten.

  8. This may sound stupid but what did the sweatpants look like? I played sports in high school & it was very common for us to wear warm up suits to school & even after school. I've noticed my nieces do the same. So is it possible that she was wearing cute, socially acceptable sweats?

  9. I agree with the last person who commented what if it was a very cute sweat pants and I like comfortable clothes she looked like the sneaker and jeans type of gal

  10. Who cares?? Why is this even important. I am questioning Purple Haze - this is a mental issue. You really need to seek counseling and MOVE ON! Is this your life? If so, how sad. Your spend a lot of time on many blogs harassing and bashing this lady who has PAID FOR HER CRIME and deserves to live her life and move on. You are really the problem.

  13. Hi Bbmokc,

"Who cares?? Why is this even important"

What are you referring to? The article or the blog? This blog must be very important to you because you continue to read it, even though you apparently detest it.

I think the point of the article is to point out that sweatpants aren't exactly party attire and not something one would wear if they were self-conscious about impressing someone else. It suggests Bernadette was lying about why she lured Kirsten out of her house under false pretences and was "dressed down" because she was planning to kill Kirsten.

This is a blog that discusses the case and supports Kirsten, the victim, who is still being cruelly vilified 30+ years after her death. People discuss this case in an attempt to try and make sense of such a senseless, savage and tragic crime. The questions this case raises: How did Bernadette get away with it for as long as she did considering the very clear description of the murderer? Why was Bernadette's alibi not checked out? What induced Bernadette’s murderous rage? Did she exhibit signs of being dangerous and unhinged before the murder? Can analysing this crime help people to detect dangerous signs in others? Can a person who commits such a savage and monstrous crime ever be truly rehabilitated? Why was Bernadette portrayed as a sympathetic character who was bullied by Kirsten when there is no evidence to support that she was bullied by Kirsten?...amongst many other questions.

"I am questioning Purple Haze - this is a mental issue. You really need to seek counseling and MOVE ON!"

It was brought to my attention that I was mentioned on this page. I didn't even comment on this article, yet you mentioned me anyway, which suggests that you have some sort of fixation on me. Your fixation on me – a stranger – suggests that it is you with the mental issue. I'm flattered that I'm on your mind. I remember you littered the blog with several comments a couple of months ago hurling insults at the blog owner or me.

Move on from what? There is nothing for me to move on from. Do you mean I shouldn’t defend Kirsten when people like you are unable to separate a movie from fact and post repugnant comments about Kirsten and her family?

Funnily enough, when I first discovered this blog, I was a silent observer and intended to remain that way until individuals like yourself wrote disparaging, malicious, heinous comments about Kirsten. You and others like you are what prompted me to comment on this blog.

“Is this your life? If so, how sad. Your spend a lot of time on many blogs harassing and bashing this lady who has PAID FOR HER CRIME and deserves to live her life and move on."

What exactly suggests that this is my life? I spend a couple of minutes responding to people that address me, or comment on a new article. Judging from other comments you have written on this blog and the other blog we conversed on, you appear to identify with the Angela Delvecchio character based on Bernadette (not an accurate representation of what she was actually like) and you get your knickers in a right twist when it is pointed out with examples that Kirsten was the only victim in this case, and that Bernadette was not some doe-eyed little innocent that was bullied by Kirsten.

Please point out the evidence that I supposedly spend a lot of time on many blogs harassing Bernadette? Please name the other blogs I have supposedly commented on? I have commented on ONE other blog and if you can prove otherwise, I would really appreciate if you gave examples. Seriously, name the websites and post the comments I have allegedly written.

  14. “who has PAID FOR HER CRIME”

That's debatable. Bernadette lured Kirsten out of her house under false pretences to a non-existent sorority dinner and when Kirsten discovered that Bernadette lied to her, she ran from Bernadette’s car and wanted to be left alone, yet Bernadette stalked Kirsten to her house and killed her. Bernadette ambushed Kirsten from behind with a 15/18 inch knife, inflicted Kirsten with two wounds down her back that were two feet long and continued to stab Kirsten in the stomach when she was suffering on the ground with her wounds. I don't agree that 7 years in a juvenile facility, the ability to complete HS education, study college courses, get a name change and have the murder stricken from her record is time served for such a brutal murder.

    “You are really the problem”

The problem here, sweetie, is that you who lack empathy,
    You lack self – awareness,
You are unable to separate a movie from reality,
Judging from your previous comments, you identify with a fictional character, and criticise and perpetuate lies about a murder a teenage murder victim and her innocent parents.

Instead of commenting on this blog and hurling childish insults, you should conduct a serious self-examination to discover why you are so rabidly against those that support and sympathize with a murder victim, and why is it so difficult for you to comprehend that people are disgusted by Bernadette's murder of Kirsten and Kirsten's vilification in the movie, "Death of a Cheerleader"? One shouldn't have to explain why they are disgusted by murder, especially a murder as heinous as Kirsten's.

Instead of commenting every couple of months and disappearing when you are addressed (I’m referring to the comments I wrote back to you a few months ago), why don’t you engage in a debate and point out why you think Bernadette is the victim and point out examples and proof of what you are accusing me of?

  15. Bbmok

You suggest that I have a "mental disorder", yet you have stated under other articles on this blog that Kirsten played a role in her murder, and you also stated that Kirsten's parents were to blame for her murder. You vociferously defended a murderer throughout the blog, yet you suggest that those who sympathize with a murder victim are mentally ill?

  16. The way Bernadette was dressed, and the fake Bobbies invitation, tells me she had this all planned, and if the blood splatter, specialist Tom Bevel from forensic Files was in on the case, bet if they tested the car, you'd found traces of blood, why didn't the police confiscate her car for evidence. The law in Orinda is a joke, the judge was an idiot. It was first degree murder, only reason why they declared it 2 nd degree cause of Virginia Prottis testimony, which by the way, I'm sure she lied. She covered for her sister, we all know it, everyone but the judge himself knew that.

  21. I thought the reason that Bernadette wore sweatpants because she not rich like Kirsten and the other (Bobbies) and she didn't have anything else to wear for a party. It's true that Bernadette isn't fashionable like her friends were. Because Kirsten did made fun of her clothes one time by saying they were from "thrift store".

  23. I pray for peace for all parties familys involved . This was 30 years ago, I am sure that Bernadette has to live with what she did every day of her life, which is really no life at all. This is between her and God.

  24. Bernadette doesn't care about what she did. She blocked it out as a teenager and can block it out now.
