Here's some photos from the class of '86 website. Kirsten didn't get to enjoy her Senior year.
Also, here is a list of classmates who passed away. Kirsten is on the list, they have never forgotten her.
And there is also a list of "missing" classmates and you can guess Bernadette is not on there.
Bernadette didn't have to do what she did. High school is tough on all of us. Class reunions are the time you show up and show everyone how good you look and how great your life turned out outside of high school.
A lot of people peak in high school and spend the rest of their lives trying to relive the glory.
Without a doubt this is the first class reunion people actually know Bernadette's new name. Man I wish I could be a fly on the wall at that reunion.
If you're in the class of '86, email me at crimespotblog@yahoo.com.
Of course Jeannette won't show up at the reunion. I can only imagine the reaction she would get if she was bold enough to attend. People are hardly going to welcome a murderer, are they. She will stay in Texas.
ReplyDeleteWho is the blonde homecoming queen? A friend of Kirsten's?
ReplyDeleteKirsten would of been homecoming queen, but, I bet tis a good friend of her s.
ReplyDeleteBernadette - Jeanette, you don't have the balls to show up, if you do it'll be the worst night of your life. No one would even talk to you or even look at you. They d shun you badly. I wouldn't if I were you, I'd stay home and live my life where you're at leave Miramonte behind. People still miss Kirsten and haven't forgotten what you did to her.
ReplyDeleteThere is one person writing under different names claiming there are rumors about Bernadette showing up at the reunion. I would take it with a grain of salt. Of course she won't show up.
ReplyDeleteObviously she will not be attending the reunion. Is that even in question? Openly and gleefully speculating whether or not she will make an appearance serves no purpose other than to incite the mob, and further torment Bernadette and her family. It is not worthy of a "true crime" blog.
ReplyDeleteThis is the realist crime blog out there. Clearly u like it that's why you keep coming back for more lol
DeleteBernadette s not that stupid nothing but a rumor. I seriously don't think thee s any danger of that. People are bored so they stir up a mess and get things started.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that "glee" is the last emotion the author of this blog feels when discussing Bernadette. That silly "mob" nonsense again? Your comments are amusingly dramatic. As I mentioned to you elsewhere, this blog is very tame when discussing Bernadette. "Further torment"? How do you know Bernadette is "tormented"? What about Kirsten's family and the torment Bernadette put them through by not only killing Kirsten, but also not apologizing or showing remorse for her heinous actions. Understandably her apology wouldn't mean shit, but she still didn't bother. Your pleas on behalf of a killer is pathetic.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Purple Haze, who cares if Bernadette was tormented and the Costas family was really tormented, look at what the went through, it's not in the past, nor will it ever be in the past, they're daughter is gone forever. Might I say in the least, Bernadette didn't go through half of what she should of who cares about her angry mob, that is nothing compared to what the Costas family endured, I'm glad they had a lot of Kirstens friends and close friend s of theirs, and family members for the support for,all these, years. What did Bernadette expect , them to welcome her with open arms?
ReplyDeleteBernadette still needs to be on jail, she should of gotten life for her crime. That judge should be disbarred and lose his license. Karen Severson and Laura Doyle did 22 years they got more than Bernadette, but still they didn't get enough either. They did the exact same thing Bernadette did they took a life out of jealousy and the only eye wittness she got nothing, I feel she was in on it or she wouldn't of been there. She's like Bernadette, off living a life of luxury and was a GLOW girl years ago on Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. How pathetic. She is like Bernadette but she at least ain't hiding under a new identity neither is Karen and Laura.
ReplyDeleteThere is no "angry mob". That's just exaggerated nonsense. I feel so sorry for Kirsten and her family.
ReplyDeleteI do to, it's so hard to lose a child I have friends who did, they say that was the worst death they endured. This girl lost her mom when she was 30 and 15 years later she lost her Son to suicide and that was the most harder death she endured. She s not the only one who told me it was hard. Kirsten's mother couldn't hear another girl laugh, or see other kids without bawling that was on Deadly Women, it haunted her for years if not forever. Bernadette is to thank for that. People defending her is either, relatives, or her sisters.
ReplyDeleteYour friend has been through a lot, bless her.
ReplyDelete"Kirsten's mother couldn't hear another girl laugh, or see other kids without bawling"
That's so heart breaking. Bernadette has caused so much pain.
Oh, you are so,right, and were to feel sorry for her, I don't not one bit. She will answer to God. She didn't care who got blamed as long as she didn't tables turned on her to. That was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI don't. If there was no FBI profiler, could Bernadette have gotten away with it? Would Nancy still have been blamed to this day? Inept is too polite a word to describe the police that "handled" the case.
ReplyDeleteI think Bernadette was gonna get caught sooner or later. They saw the gold pinto, and she didn't have a good alibi, and teens who committ crimes usually get caught. Nancy didn't even return to school that year from what she said in an interview cause of the accusations so she didn't get to go back there, Bernadette just sat quietly and hid behind volunteering at hospitals to hide her crime, thinking it d cover up murder, she was wrong, once the detectives put 2 and 2 together, she was done, She was the only one without an alibi and her car match the description that was seen at the crime. So she knew she was cornered. Everything she got she deserved. Her mom and sisters felt sorry for her and said poor Bernadette. They are twisted to. I wouldn't defend my child if she murdered, I d have nothing else to do with her, regardless, of the reason. I look at it this way, there's always someone better who will come along , even if a kirsten did make fun of her clothes Kirsten would of ran across someone who'd made her look bad, so no need for the murder, what comes around goes around. No nothing justifies murder.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYour comment makes sense, but the police thought Bernadette passed the lie detector so they didn't follow up on her alibi. I don't understand her mother and sisters either. I guess some mothers love their children no matter what they do. I would be very disgusted with my sibling if he/she committed murder under similar circumstances to Bernadette. Murdering a person because you are jealous? So, so vile. They must have really believed Bernadette was a victim even though there is no evidence of her being a "victim" of Kirsten. You are right about "what goes around comes around", but did Kirsten make fun of Bernadette's clothes, or just make a thoughtless remark about her skis? I think it was just skis.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, mothers loves are unconditional. But, there's a limit, I wouldn't be able to defend my child over murder, unless, it was self defense. In other words, someone breaking in our home with a gun, going to shoot us then I can see murder, but not over a remark about your ski s or clothes. It was over jealousy, and to me, there s always someone better who will come along and beat that person out, and then they will know what it feels like to lose. Bernadette should of sat right, and someone better would of came along, and eventually she d been able to beat someone at something like baseball or track. Cheerleading isn't everything, and she got that popular club, so she was fine, she wanted so so much more, she wanted to be a Kirsten.
ReplyDeleteI thought that one if the conditions of Bernadette's release was that she isn't allowed to go back to the Orinda area? Although, I'm not sure how that would be enforceable all these years later and with a new identity.
ReplyDeleteI never heard a Bernadette can't return to Orinda, her family's there. If she does she s discreet about it cause she knows no one would want to see her. That BS about her going to a reunion this year, I don't think so, she changed her identity cause she knew people were angry with her over Kirsten, so why would she even bother to go around the people she so wants to avoid, and change her identity so they wouldn't be able to find her, she s not going to go around them after all that, or so you'd think. Kirsten missed her senior year and she'd probaly of been homecoming queen, the queen they had is probaly a good friend of Kirsten's cause she was in the elite crowd and Bernadette wasn't. The homecoming queen in the picture is pretty as Kirsten was.
ReplyDelete"there s always someone better who will come along and beat that person out, and then they will know what it feels like to lose. Bernadette should of sat right, and someone better would of came along"
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean? How does that apply to Kirsten?
There is no evidence of Kirsten "bullying" Bernadette. One remark is not bullying. I got the impression that Bernadette was anxious that someone would say something negative about her skis. Perhaps she should have had a few remarks ready in case someone said something smart assed, rather than allowing herself to feel like a victim.
Bernadette's feelings were a result of her inferiority complex. It isn't Kirsten's fault that Bernadette couldn't achieve what Kirsten achieved. I don't understand why she wasn't just happy that she got into one of the sorority clubs. Nothing appeared to be good enough.
Bernadette was insecure and she couldn't achieve enough. Poor Kirsten was a month shy of her 16 th birthday, Bernadette robbed her of that and robbed Mrs Costas, cause I'm sure Mrs Costas had big plans for her daughters big day. 16th birthday is a very important birthday in a youth s life, Bernadette got to celebrate. Her 16 th birthday. She dated when she turned 16 don't know what happened there, after the murder he wouldn't want her no one would, she was done in Orinda after that ,and done at Miramonte she knew it, so that s why ai highly doubt she ll go to the 30'year reunion.
ReplyDeletehe wont go the reunion. Why would she. Doesn't Jeannette still have relatives in Orinda (a sister)? I wouldn't be able to live in a small town if my sister murdered someone in cold blood. I would be embarrassed and ashamed to be associated with her in any way.
ReplyDeleteThe whole family is twisted, I doubt they even care, I don't think I could live in the same town my sister murdered either. Her mom lives there also, her mom however they say was nice sure she was, but how can she have Anything to do with Bernadette. No one in Orinda would want to see or hear from Bernadette, or would, anyone want her at the reunion., She made her choices years ago, that's the consequences of her choice, people don't forgive or forget. Bible says to I know, but it's very hard on something like that.
ReplyDeleteHer sister is a banker, but she should be ashamed of what happened, Od move if it were me. She s as twisted as Bernadette, I saw the movie, the whole family was there supporting Bernadette in court made me sick. She had a school friend in the movie who went and supported Bernadette also and friends Kirsten's told her what are you doing her this trial is for Stacy (Kirsten's) friends. Wonder if that really happened or if it was dramatized. And the 2 that were singled out and blamed they showed them getting harrassed, but I read one moved to England and didn't even go back to Miramonte, and the other one dropped out of Miramonte. They left cause of the accusations against them, one was, once a preppie and turned punk, the other was goth. So they combined the 2 gals together. Then after the trial people started talking to Heather(2 combined girls) again. A lot of unanswered questions. Then at Bernadette s trail, her friend said to the other lark why are they doing this to her! The girl said I don't know she confessed, and her friend said it's like New England how here sinners are put in a pillars where the towns people get dressed up to spit at them, the other said wonder how many are getting dressed,up to spit at her? Her friend took up for her saying why are they doing this to her, I don't know what they did to her out of contest. Her friend is sick to and she probaly got ran out of Miramonte if she did indeed stick up for her. They dramatize stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe homecoming queen, wonder if she was one of Kirsten's friends portrayed in the movie Death of a cheerleader.
ReplyDeleteThe one above in the photo ,anyone know? I bet she is, Kirsten was in that group.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Bernadette s parents were to pass if she d get to go to the funeral, or would they just have them cremated. Cause if the people knew they d, probaly come to see about Jeanette/Bernadette. They were supposedly nice people.
ReplyDelete"and her friend said it's like New England how here sinners are put in a pillars where the towns people get dressed up to spit at them, the other said wonder how many are getting dressed,up to spit at her? Her friend took up for her saying why are they doing this to her"
ReplyDeleteAs you said: movies dramatize stuff. I would be enraged with someone for butchering my friend and would also go to the murderer's trial if possible. It's logical her friends were there (if they were there).
"I saw the movie, the whole family was there supporting Bernadette in court made me sick"
I wouldn't take the movie seriously. However, an article stated that Bernadette's sisters and mother did support her at her trial, yes.
"Her friend is sick too"
Her friend probably just wanted to see the best in Bernadette. However, I think it's immoral if she supported her knowing the details of the viscous crime.
I don't know. Maybe the funeral would be attended by family only.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't of went to her trial if she was my best friend, in fear of rejection for sticking up for a murderer. I wouldn't think her friend would go for her, Kirsten's friends I'm sure packed the trial to see Bernadette get hung, they were hoping. I would of been to,esp if she was a friend, or someone I liked. The movies are sometimes dramatized, like the goth girl they blamed and harrassed, Nancy Said in an interview she wasn't allowed to go back to Miramonte after the accusations, she got harrassing phone calls about returning to Miramonte though, not sure about the other girl blamed, what happened to her, she transferred to, Nancy never returned there, I read an article where she went to England that year. Benradette s family is twisted as she is, and if her friend did go on Bernadette's behalf, then she deserved to be harrassed and ran out of town, I would be finding a new best friend. I wouldn't want a murderer.

ReplyDeleteBernadette is a mentally disturbed individual, in my opinion, I wouldn't not only want anyone to know I was a best friend of hers, I wouldn't want it known I even know her. She wouldn't be on my Facebook page or any social media. Anyone who would defend her or claim her as a friend is mentally disturbed to, that goes for her sisters especially. No one deserves to be murdered, don't care if the person is the meanest one in that school, no one deserves that. We all had it tough growing up, I had it like Bernadette, I was in sports, also dram club, never got the lead plays I accepted defeat. I was around cheerleaders! I tried out for cheerleading, never made it, I accepted it. Had a friend who was a cheerleader and the cheerleaders were nice and. Friendly just that one was my friend, the rest just around, my social life was like Bernadette's in fact, that was my life, minus the murder. I,was always trying to achieve, there was a popular girl who didn't like me , we just stayed our ways. Only difference beteewn Bernadette and I, I never murdered, I made other choices and accepted defeat. I played softball, basketball, and track and was in the drama club. So I know how tough high school is on a person especially in competition, we accept loss.
ReplyDeleteDid this friend exist or was she just created for the movie?
ReplyDeleteLooking at it from the friend's perspective, I would be in shock if a good friend who is generally known for being polite and nice committed a murder similar to Bernadette's murder. I would initially find it difficult to separate my feelings from the friend I thought I knew versus the reality of her being a murderer and the heinous knife attack she inflicted on her victim. I would probably delude myself about it initially because it would be too devastating to comprehend.
Nancy went back to Miramonte for her senior year. I don't know about the other girl.
"Anyone who would defend her or claim her as a friend is mentally disturbed to"
Murders always have some sympathizers, especially when the sympathizers project their own experiences (bullying in this instance) onto the victim.
*similar to Kirsten's murder
ReplyDeleteNancy's dad was a doctor, and she had a pretty good life, up till time of the accusations involving her. Glad she got to go back to Miramonte and finish it out. She was popular up till a point and in one article she was asked to joined the Bobbies but she didn't want to. She loved horses, her interview is really interesting. I don't know much on the other accused except she was goth, not sure if she went back either. If I was Bernadette's best friend and thought of her as polite and nice and harmless Id be in severe shock to murder and not wanna talk or trust anyone, let alone go and defend her. That other girl in the movie from the lark the childhood friend defended her and quit the club according to the movie, but is it really how it ended! I doubt she d stick up,for a murderer after being friends with Kirsten. I wouldn't Bernadette was wrong and always will be. I would disown her for sure as a friend family sibling child whatever. She d be unwelcome around me as well as she is a Orinda.
ReplyDeleteHi again people, so judging Ahhhh. Family loves you unconditionally loxe your kids unconditionally. That's why her family stands by her and friend. She nas a true loyal friend. That was so long ago who worries now except you.
ReplyDeleteJesus forgave those who crucified him, so why are u unforgiving. We all mass mistakes. True christians pray for people's souls. A true Christiam would pray for her soul, true loyal fried would stand by you in times of trouble a family will love you no matter what and mothers love unconditionally no matter why a, don't make you insane makes you a true person.
ReplyDeleteget over the past and move on........Jesus doesn't exist.
ReplyDeleteYes he does, I ll pray for you. He died for your sins . He died for Bernadette s sins, and he wouldn't want you being unforgiving a true believer would pray for her soul. I go to a church in Lexington Ky. And we believe all sins are forgive able except balspjemy of the Holy Ghost.
ReplyDeleteSo all you who don't know The Lord all pray you find him. Cause he is real. Pray and ask for a miracle and you ll recieve.
ReplyDeleteisn't lying a sin? I don't think Jesus would be very happy with you lying about where you come from.
ReplyDeleteI think Get over the past, is either Bernadette or Gina and that twisted bunch. Why else would she defend them? The whole thing is absorbed to me with what she s writing. I am a Christian and pray for everyone, but I also believe and eye for a eye, and Bernadette needs more time than she got, not off loving a life of luxury, and working as a nurse, I do believe she got away with murder literally, and if it'd been anyone else they'd got 15 to,life. A girl in Austraila murdered a 15 year old on Deadly women same segment as Bernadette Protti and Karen Severson, she got 15 to life eligible for parole in 11 years to her boyfriend rejected her for a 15 year old so she murdered the 15 year old thinking she d get him back. If you're not a friend or relative Get over the past, do you have kids?m would you like to be Kirsten's mom and deal with what she dealt with. If you have kids how can you like Bernadette unless you're a relative.
ReplyDeleteIt would be understandable if the friend (if she was real) was in shock and had trust issues.
ReplyDelete"That other girl in the movie from the lark the childhood friend defended her and quit the club according to the movie, but is it really how it ended!"
From what I have read about the case, the individual based on Kirsten in the movie was purely a fictional characterization, so I would take the movie and its depiction of other characters supposedly based on real people with a grain of salt.
"Get over the past" is not Virginia or Bernadette. It's a silly woman from Britain.
ReplyDelete"Get over the past" where is this church you speak of? What are the cross streets? What surrounds it? What is the traffic like on Sunday's? What are you favorite parts about this city? There's a certain event that's happening soon, lasts for a month or so, what is that? I think you need to focus on your therapy instead of this cold blooded murder. Because that's what it was a murder. You should ask yourself, if given the chance (if you're not someone who is in Bernadettes family as I believe you are) would you go back and be friends with her? Or even now if you have kids would you want them to be friends with Bernadettes children? I wouldn't, you know why? She shows no remorse for what she did, she's a sociopath. And I would say yes, people can be forgiven but I don't think that she's asked for forgiveness because the only thing she's sorry for is getting caught. If I actually saw some type of remorse from her then I might think she deserved a second chance, but since that hasn't happened, I don't.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't want my kids around Bernadette or her kids either. Cause Bernadette could snap again and do the same thing all over again. Sorry for her kids, but I wouldn't want them associated with a murderer. Bernadette is sorry only cause she got caught. She last others take the blame and didn't bat one eye. One girl she let take the blame is a sweet girl named Nancy who is the daughter of a doctor, she left town, but came back and finished her senior year. I read her interviews she is a very sweet person and she was very hurt by what happened, so no I have no sympathy for Bernadette. She let to many people get hurt and affected, whatever she got she deserved. Put yourself in the place of Mrs Costas. No excuse for murder, I'm glad you're a Christian and pray for people, pray for the Costas family to find peace and God to be with them. Well I wasted enough time on here with you, tell Bernadette that we don't care she s changed ok. Bye Gina nice chatting with you.

ReplyDeleteI love these pictures of their class...It really takes me back, I am about Bernie's age. I wondered what happened to the guy in the toga???
ReplyDeleteget over the past........is a liar.
ReplyDeleteWho can't spell. Or proof read......
DeleteWho can't spell. Or proof read......
DeleteSue Jones, you a Miramonte Student? Who's the homecoming queen, a friend of Kirsten's I bet anything. Let us know more about it, you knew Bernadette to? From what I gathered from you I get the impression you knew these people. It'd be interesting on it to someone who really knows and not pretending to know. Well hope to see Sue on here soon. Were not interested in Bernadette a lot we already know she s a killer.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was a Miramonte Student!! I live in the midwest-farm land. I just grew up in that same era and remember the hair and fashions...I wish I knew more.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures remind me of HS too, Sue. I had so many laughs in HS.
ReplyDeleteI saw that interview with Nancy. It's a shame that other people weren't interviewed for the documentary as it appeared to be a bit one-sided. Nancy was also terribly affected by Bernadette's actions.
ReplyDelete"Get over the past", give it a rest already!
ReplyDeleteJeannette Tomanka's Facebook page has over 400 likes with very little interaction on her page..... with 'one person talking about this'. Very strange. Could a lot of those be fake likes . It is just weird that there is such little interaction on her page.
ReplyDeleteAlso, of those people who've actually commented on her page, you can click the profiles of them and they're blank. There is nothing, not even the profile picture anymore. Not sure if they've been deleted facebooks from the user or if Facebook is doing it themselves because they're fake. But it is very strange.
DeletePurple Haze ignore her. People like that want you to,feed into them, like a stray dog you feed them and they'll stay around, you ignore them, they go,away. I tell people on Facebook about cyber bullying, ignore negative comments and the bulky will leave and quit posting, but you feed into it they will continue like a stray dog don't feed it and it will go away. Ignore Get over the past, Stephanie or anyone on here posting negativity and defending Bernadette you're so much better and smarter than those people so don't go to thier level, they want you to.
ReplyDeleteI looked at Jeannete's facebook again. It now has '6 people talking about this', whereas it was 1 person yesterday. It had a spike in likes last week, yet there is still no interaction on her page. She must have read my comment. It is very strange. She really isn't fooling anyone.
ReplyDelete" you're so much better and smarter than those people"
ReplyDeleteWell aren't you quite the charmer. Flattery will get you everywhere....
I don't know whether or not she will come back and I'm not the least bit concerned either way.
Elizabeth, I looked at the page. I think I know the profile you are talking about (the one that has left a number of messages and it does appear to be fake). Have you looked at the "visitor's posts"? Have you read the response to her being asked: life hacker, what does that mean to you? How did you interpret that answer? I thought it had a nefarious double meaning with the winking smiley face, but maybe I read too much into it.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you and I couldn't be convinced of anything else. I do believe the poster knows what Jeanette did and she was calling attention to that description and Jeanette knew what was really being asked. But I could be wrong. It's hard to measure evil.
DeleteThat's how I interpreted it. Also, someone else in the comments thought that was what Jeannette was implying and wrote "haha ;)" in response. Her fans disgust me as much as she does.
ReplyDeleteYou would have to be some sick b*****d to think a murderer attempting to humorously refer to her murder victim in a tongue in cheek manner is funny.
ReplyDeleteI find it strange that a murderer has fans, but that's what they are. I wonder if these people though, were ones that think they were bullied and felt that Bernadette killing Kristen was justified and that their bully's should have been killed too. You're right, they're definitely as sick as she is.
DeleteI think that's exactly what they are doing. They are projecting their own experiences onto Kirsten because they believe she was really like the insufferable Staci Lockwood character from the movie "Death of a Cheerleader". Adults who criticize Kirsten and suggest her death was a result of her own actions should be ashamed of themselves. Bernadette only recounted one incident of Kirsten being "mean" to her. One sarcastic remark doesn't constitute bullying. No one is perfect when they are teenagers and I get the impression that some of these people are looking at how they were as teenagers through rose colored glasses. I wasn't particularly nice at times or always considerate of other people's feelings when I was a teen. I understand that's hard to believe considering the charm and sweetness I exude and how wonderfully pleasant I always appear to be on this blog .....LOL. My point is most of us get a chance to grow up and poor Kirsten didn't.
ReplyDeleteThe following was posted by a fan. I don't know whether or not the person is trolling, or a child, or another option I'm hesitant to mention.
ReplyDeleteI know that I truly don't know you, at all, just as, of course, you truly don't know me, at all, Jeanette, but from what I've recently seen, so far, within this positively inspirational Facebook page, of yours, you truly do seem like an only inwardly, and outwardly truly beautiful, and positively humble, godly, christian, and spiritually positive person, and woman, is all.
also truly do only hope, and wish that you, and your whole, entire family have only had a great week, so far, are only having a great, happy day, and great, happy morning, so far, and only have a great weekend, is all, this weekend, Jeanette, and for many many many many many many many many more of any, and all of these only truly, and fully great, happy days, great, happy weeks, great, happy mornings, and great, happy weekends, to follow, is all, for you, and your whole, entire family, in any, and in all only truly, and fully great, and positive ways, now, always, and forever, Jeanette.
I truly, and fully do like you, is all, Jeanette, and I also only truly hope you, and your whole, entire family are only truly, fully, and totally positively, happily, healthily, warmly, comfortingly, and safely blessed, is all, by our only great, loving, good, warm, true, real, and everlasting world saviors, God, and Jesus, now, always, and forever.
I also truly do only hope, and wish that you, and your whole, entire family have only had a great week, so far, are only having a great, happy day, and great, happy morning, so far, and only have a great weekend, is all, this weekend, Jeanette, and for many many many many many many many many more of any, and all of these only truly, and fully great, happy days, great, happy weeks, great, happy mornings, and great, happy weekends, to follow, is all, for you, and your whole, entire family, in any, and in all only truly, and fully great, and positive ways, now, always, and forever, Jeanette.
Obviously not a native English speaker.
ReplyDeleteShe IS a native English speaker. I've read other comments by her.........all in perfect English. She doesn't have a foreign name either. Maybe she was just excited to be talking to a murderer.
ReplyDeleteA while back I "liked" her page on FB. I have no idea how I even came across the blog. I did not know anything about the case at all. I made a comment or two. I also asked a question about a soup recipe. I received an answer but for some reason, I felt she was annoyed to have to answer my question. I started going through her blog. I saw where comments were deleted and I could tell a few comments made some woman defensive. That is when I decided to google Jeanette. I came across this blog as well as stories regarding the murder. I really had no clue when I started reading. Who does that and why?
ReplyDeleteI've seen that she sort of snaps at people in comments. The FB page, twitter and blog are just for show. She obviously has no interest in them. You must have been surprised when you read about the real Jeannette. She murdered Kirsten because she couldn't her approval and was frightened that Kirsten would tell others how utterly weird she was.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that she sort of snaps at people in comments. The FB page, twitter and blog are just for show. She obviously has no interest in them. ReplyDeleteI was very surprised when I found out. I commented on the colors of the nesting dolls and a couple of other things. Most people with blogs are chatty and friendly. I am lost to why she puts herself out there only to delete comments. There is one person who comments a lot. Jeanette never answers her. She would have been better off not having the fake blogs. She is only drawing attention to herself.
ReplyDeleteI am glad it changed my comment name. Not crazy about using anonymous. Too many on here.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The lack of interaction on her blog only confirms that the blog is just"for show". I suppose the fake blogs are an attempt to divert people away from this site and others and the generic blog with little interaction makes it too obvious that's what the intention was. Also, a question she answers on the "visitor posts" about what "life hacker" means to her makes her look deplorable and callous.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting was how rude she was to people who would ask her a question. In my case, I asked a question about a soup recipe. The way she answered was like she was HAD to answer it. I made a comment about the color of eggs that she posted. She ignored the comment. I have read many blogs and have never seen anyone so disconnected in what they were doing. I was shocked when I found out. It made sense after that. I believe I would lay low and not put myself out there. The fake blog brought me to this blog.
ReplyDelete"Disconnected" is the perfect word to describe her interaction (or lack of) with others on her FB page, unless of course you compliment her. I find it so amusing that her fake blog brought you to this one. Tbh, it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's not Bernadette running that generic FB page, but someone else on her behalf (a family member). Maybe the same person who wrote repugnant comments recently not only about Kirsten and her parents, but also the blog owner. I'm speculating of course, it could very well be her. I just don't think she would be that stupid to write what she wrote about the blog owner.
ReplyDeleteWhen I started suspecting that something was not right, I googled her new name. Tons of things came up on the murder. As I was going through the things on Google and trying to process what I was reading, this came up. I went back and re-read Jeannette's blog and the comments that were still there. I still can't figure out why she continues to keep drawing attention to herself by posting on here and having the blog.
ReplyDeletePerhaps she is under the misguided delusion that her blog/FB page will present her as a wholesome run of the mill God fearing mother and housewife, as opposed to the obsessive jealous mentally unhinged teenager who committed a cold blooded murder. No matter how she portrays herself, there is just no getting away from the fact that she committed a viscous heinous murder. Again, I find it amusing that her fake blog brought you here. It obviously defeats the purpose of her fake blog/FB page if it encourages people to google her name and discover her past anyway.
ReplyDeleteIf she wanted to keep up the Suzy Homemaker image up, she would have kept her blog up like a real blog. Posting every now and then, short answers, deleted comments, disconnected, etc. would make anyone question what was going on. When I read where a person was wanting to send Jeannette a private message to ask her questions, I knew something was up. I was shocked when I found out. Now, I question if everyone who follows her knows the story. It seems like the only people who comment are the ones that know because she deletes the comments. So why keep it up? I had no clue but now I know. So if I questioned it, others will as well. Most normal people try to blend in. I am so glad I found this blog.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The little interaction and the deleted comments only draws attention and suspicion to the blog.
ReplyDelete" Now, I question if everyone who follows her knows the story"
Some maybe, but I doubt that most people are aware. I really don't know why she is keeping it up. It's an exercise in futility, imo. Did you follow Bernadette's FB page long?
One thing she should really delete as it does her no favors and only confirms that she is a repugnant person is her answer to the life hacker question on the visitor posts section. It was brought to my attention by someone else and I couldn't believe her brazenness and arrogance in publishing something like that for anyone to read. Then again, she refers to herself as a "lifehacker" so I really shouldn't have been too surprised.
I did not follow it very long. I am not even sure how I found it. She seemed so cold. I thought maybe she was shy. I love reading people's comments. When I clicked on to read them, most of them were gone. I went all the way back next read what was there. Now I wonder if the one woman who posts a lot is a friend of hers. Thank God for Google.
ReplyDeleteHi. She comes across as very cold, indeed. The deleted comments were probably from people mentioning her past. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a friend. I think it would be very funny if she was the one posing as the "friend" and writing to herself. That probably isn't the case, but I would laugh out loud if it was ever revealed she had multiple FB accounts and wrote to herself on her FB page.
ReplyDeleteI opened a post on my FB private message account today. It was dated back in Dec. I am just seeing it. It was from someone I did not know and could not reply to. It told me to watch what I posted. I am assuming from the date, they were meaning the Jeanette blog. They said she was a killer.
ReplyDeleteSo it seems you would have discovered Bernadette's past anyway.
ReplyDelete"It told me to watch what I posted"
Did you interpret that as some sort of threat? Usually when someone starts a sentence with "Watch what you......" there is a negative intent behind it, or perhaps it was just a warning.
I'm sure you wrote polite or non-offensive comments, so you didn't have to worry about "watching what you posted".
I did not say anything bad. First of all, I did not know anything about her when I was posting. I have not posted any since I found out. I would guess it was a warning. I just saw it. It did not go into my regular private message file. The only reason I found it was I was deleting some of my private messages. I received a message on my phone about iCloud storage. I have no idea what it is all about . I was trying to get rid of the old messages hoping to free space. I could not reply back to this person. The person sent it back in Dec.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I wonder if that person wrote other "warnings" to people posting on the FB page. There are comments on the FB page from people who are well aware of her past and don't care. I personally find it baffling and disturbing that people can happily engage with someone who viscously murdered someone else. The wounds Bernadette inflicted on Kirsten really were sickening.
ReplyDeletePurple Haze- I know the post you are talking about. Someone wanted Jeanette to answer personal questions. The person you are referring to said she knew what she did. I am curious of why Jeanette puts herself out there on these blogs when she knows 95% of the people reading it know. I would think she would apologize, lay low and try to live a quiet life. I have read on this blog that people think she is posting on here. I do not know enough about this case to know. I am taking the people who post on here's word. Once again, why does she keep doing this kind of thing? It is proving your point. I would love to know about the person who sent me the warning. I wish I would have known about it before now. It was posted in late Dec.
ReplyDelete"I am curious of why Jeanette puts herself out there on these blogs"
ReplyDeleteShe knows her real name can be easily discovered, so I'm guessing she is attempting to divert people from other blogs discussing her past by futilely attempting to portray herself as a good virtuous wife and mother.
" I would think she would apologize, lay low and try to live a quiet life."
Like you pointed out in a previous comment, the lack of interaction and "cold" comments on her FB just draws attention to her and may prompt people to look her up anyway. She won't apologize. Some of her comments give the impression that she is arrogant and just doesn't give a sh**.
It's possible that she has posted here, but I don't think the recent comments are necessarily from her. I think they are from a family member - possibly the one whose picture is published on this blog. The insipid drivel the family member posted recently and a couple of previous comments she posted are spitting nails that her picture is is on this blog. A stranger wouldn't be so invested or angry about the family member's insignificant picture.
It's understandable that the sister has been discussed. After all, she did say in court that the 18inch knife was hers and often left in the car to cut vegetables for lunch. What an absurd lie.
Kmaham, was the first initial of the person who sent you a warning "S"?
ReplyDeleteI think it was an "s". I know it had to be a fake person. I could not reply to the person which concerned me. The whole knife story was a bit hard to swallow. I have watched the movie and it made me sick. I was bullied but murder never crossed my mind. I found it disturbing that Jeanette is so cold on her blog. I have read all of it and I am amazed at how it seems the actual people that comment make her uncomfortable. She needs to quit with the blogs and lay low.
ReplyDeleteHi kmaham, I'm sorry you were bullied. Kirsten didn't bully Bernadette. Spurious claims have been made about Kirsten in an attempt to justify her murder. It's horrific and tragic that she was murdered, but for others (such as the family member who posts here) to wittingly perpetuate the bullying lie knowing it could damage a murdered girl's name, is despicable, abhorrent, sick and quite evil. Bernadette only mentioned one incident of Kirsten being "mean" to her. According to Bernadette, Kirsten said something smart assed about her used skis.
ReplyDeleteThe movie is mostly inaccurate, apart from the stabbing scene. How horrific Kirsten went through that.
Judging from how generic her FB is, she clearly has no interest in it and probably feels resentfully obligated to answer people in order to keep up the "Suzy Homemaker" façade.
She won't quit with the blogs. I'm sure she will keep running it out of defiance with a middle finger to other websites that discuss her and the truth.
Yes, the knife story is hard to swallow because it's clearly BS.
I am sure she was never bullied. However, even if she was, that is not an excuse to do what she did to Kristen. God, I can't imagine how her parents lived through that nightmare. What I can't get over is how much time it took before Bernadette was arrested. Did her parents not question the fact that the car involved was just like Bernadettes.
ReplyDeleteHi. There is no evidence of Kirsten bullying Bernadette. I agree it wouldn't be an excuse to do what she did. I couldn't believe the incompetence of the police either as they had a clear description of her and the pinto she drove. Surely there couldn't have been many/any bobbies members fitting Bernadette and the pinto's description. If it wasn't handed over to the FBI, she probably would have gotten away with it. Poor Nancy Kane would probably still be suspected today.
ReplyDeleteHer parents were suggested to be older and didn't appear to have been "in tune" with her.
To me, it seemed like Bernadette was obsessed with Kristen. Some people have mentioned her being in love with Kristen. In my opinion that was not the case. I think Kristen was everything Bernadette wanted to be. The whole package kind of girl. I can't wait to dig deeper into this case. I have read about Bernadette wearing the sweats and the knife story. If this was a premeditated killing, did something happen before B killed K? What was the final thing that pushed B ? It could have been something as simple as seeing Kristen talking to a friend. That is what is so sad about this case. Not to mention poor Nancy. As far as the car goes, there are no words. You know that info must have been published in the papers and on tv.
ReplyDeleteHi. She was very obsessed. Jealous too. I don't think it was anything sexual, but can understand how it was construed as such. I think Bernadette had a "girl crush" and viewed Kirsten as an "idol". No one knows what set Bernadette off before the killing. I assumed she was fuming at the fact that she wasn't picked to work on the yearbook, she wasn't picked to be a cheerleader and she didn't get into the club she wanted. Perhaps she was stewing in hate and resentment for Kirsten as Kirsten was at cheerleading camp for the week before Bernadette killed her. She did reportedly say to a friend that "some people didn't deserve to be on the cheerleading squad". However, she did get into a sorority that was also exclusive, yet she wasn't satisfied.
ReplyDelete"It could have been something as simple as seeing Kristen talking to a friend"
It could very well have been. Bernadette's childhood friend was good friends with Kristen.
We will never really know what "set her off" before Kirsten's murder.
I felt very bad for Nancy. She said in a documentary she used drink to cope with her emotional distress due to being blamed for the murder, and how she was treated when she returned to Miramonte. She didn't deserve that.
I really don't understand how Bernadette wasn't caught earlier. Yes, I read there was a description of the car and Bernadette in newspapers. Surely someone suspected her. Surely.
it's horrific and tragic. She killed Kirsten over something so ridiculous and trivial.
I know a person (an adult) that reminds me of Bernadette. Several years ago, I had a casual friendship with her. She and her husband were having problems and I became "therapist". It was over-whelming. Every broken fingernail, problems with friends etc. became a huge deal to her and I was contacted. Once I did not answer my phone. I actually turned it off. The messages left on my phone was truly unbelievable . Threats of suicide mingled in with bizarre messages. I had to sever my friendship with her. I could not take it. I have heard she is divorced and still crazy. I feel sorry for her but on some level she scared me. She was so desperate. Since I became interested in this case, I have thought a lot of this person. I wonder how Bernadette is with her friends now. On the flip side, if my exfriend was like Bernadette when she was teen. We will never know what happened that night. I wonder if she has a hard time sleeping. Maybe one day J will be honest with herself and tell what really happened. It may help some other troubled teen. I also hope she is getting help.

ReplyDeleteYour friend's behavior reminds me of borderline personality disorder. It looks like she was dependent on you to an unhealthy suffocating toxic degree.
ReplyDeleteBefore the murder, Bernadette was described as shy, timid, quiet, self conscious and kind.
I don't think she would have trouble sleeping.
The following is from a newspaper article:
The fear of disclosure also played a part in Protti' s lack of emotion when detectives inter -
rogated her after the crime, sources said. "There was no remorse exhibited," one source said. "At least outwardly , this s person appeared to be unexcited. Totally casual. Even overly casual. " In her mind, the act was justified," said the source. Official s said a psychological profile the FBI developed on the possible killer indicated that she would show emotion.
She also stated she "could block it out of her mind easily"
I don't think she will ever come forward and discuss her crime, I don't think she would have the courage to.
onl y about the possibility of being caught — not about hav i n g committe d a crime
Ignore the last sentence at the end. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteShe obviously has not had any sort of help or not enough. From what little bit of interaction I had with her via her FB blog, she still seems to not have much emotion. Most people that are excited enough to start something like that are excited about it. No emotion whatsoever. NONE! It is sad for her children and family. I know they love her. However, do not enable or encourage that behavior.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if a person can really be sufficiently rehabilitated after committing such a viscous murder. The manner in which she killed Kirsten was horrific and monstrous. As mentioned above, "There was no remorse exhibited". "In her mind, the act was justified,". As I mentioned in a previous comment, her FB is just a pretence and her comments give the impression that she feels resentfully obligated to reply to people. Bernadette's father was quoted in a newspaper article as stating Bernadette was getting counselling before the murder.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for her children, but I'm repulsed at the family member posting here. It could of course be Bernadette herself that's posting the reprehensible comments. I initially thought she wouldn't be that stupid, but mentally unstable people don't think rationally, do they?
Interesting that Bernadette was getting counseling before the murder. I wonder what for. Since I am new to this story, I do not know the writing styles. I have seen some posts defending Bernadette. I can see loving your family BUT to make excuses or lie is just insane. I believe it was premeditated. However ,I wonder if B would have killed K if things would have different in that car. All we know is one side of the story and I doubt if it was true. Poor Kirsten did not stand a chance. We will never know if it was something K said or maybe she rolled her eyes at B. I am sure of one thing, we got the watered down version of the story, if that. With the self- confidence that K seemed to have from what I have read may have not worked in her favor. How would she know that B had a knife. And, planned to use it. I agree about mentally unstable people. In the blink of an eye they can snap.

ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham,
ReplyDeleteThe following is taken from a newspaper:
FBI agent Gerald Diederich testified that Protti's father, Raymond, told him Bernadette was "quite upset" about not making the Miramonte varsity cheerleading squad, and that she thought some girls who had made the team "were not as deserving." Costas did make the cheerleading team, and had just completed a week-long cheerleading cam p at St. Mary's College in Moraga the day before. Diederich said he also was told by Raymond Protti that his daughter was jealous of other Orinda girls who were wealthier than she, and that she wished she had more friends. Raymond Protti testified his daughter was undergoing counselling prior to the murder, and that she had "times of feeling despondent." He said at the time of the murder, Bernadette- a "candy-striper " volunteer at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, had been taking classes to be confirmed in the Catholic Church.
"I can see loving your family BUT to make excuses or lie is just insane"
yes, especially propagating the lie that Kirsten bullied Bernadette. Bernadette or her family member have no scruples about lying about a dead child and berating her parents. To lie about a dead person, especially a murdered child, and to wickedly blame her innocent parents is about as low as one can go and shows she has the morals of a festering anal wart.
I also believe it was premeditated. I have also wondered would things have turned out differently if Kirsten placated Bernadette until she got safely behind the door of her neighbor’s house. I think Bernadette was mentally unstable and confessed her admiration for Kirsten and if she didn't get the reaction she wanted, she was going to kill her. Realistically, a rational person could logically foresee how another person would react to you lying about a party in order to be alone with them. Look at it from the perspective of when you were a teen and you would have viewed Bernadette as strange and possibly a homosexual. Kirsten probably did role her eyes at Bernadette and tell her she was acting weird because she probably couldn't fathom what possessed Bernadette to do something so odd and what was the intent behind it.
Also, Bernadette possibly became hysterical and incoherent when she didn't get the reaction she wanted from Kirsten. It was stated elsewhere that Bernadette "idolized" Kirsten, so I can only imagine the raving incoherent nonsense that came out of her mouth to try and justify why she lied to Kirsten to get her alone.
It's so unfortunate that Kirsten didn't realize how dangerous Bernadette was
Purple Haze- thinking about what possibly went on in that car is hard for me to think about . Poor Kirsten . I see her as a bubbly, self-confident, and maybe a little naive girl. How long before she knew she was in trouble? How long did she have to listen to Bernadette ? Did she plead for her to stop? Did Kirsten argue with Bernadette and maybe that pushed her to pull out the knife? Questions we will never know the answers to. Back to the "help" Bernadette was supposed to be getting. It seems odd that she was getting counseling that many years ago unless it was really severe. I just find that if her parents did not see the similarities in the case with their car and daughter, how would they see she needed counseling. Even today a lot do not see their kids need help. Or, maybe some ignore it. Of course B blamed Kirsten. The old " Let's blame the victim" game. To blame the victim means blaming her parents. After all, they raised her. They had to justify it. That part makes me crazy and mad. You read it all the time. There are those that will actually feel sorry for the poor victim.
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteYes, it’s very sad. She was described as a confident bubbly sociable girl. Yes, she rang friends about the “initiation dinner” and they told her they didn’t think there was one. Her curiosity got the better of her, unfortunately. However, one can see why Kirsten viewed Bernadette picking her up for the “initiation dinner” as nothing but innocuous. Orinda was stated to be a nice safe crime free town with decent hard working law abiding people. It is understandable that one would let their guard down and expect the best in such a safe community. Also, Bernadette was described as timid and weak by a good friend of hers, so understandably Kirsten didn’t view Bernadette as a danger before getting into the car with her.
“How long before she knew she was in trouble? How long did she have to listen to Bernadette ? Did she plead for her to stop? Did Kirsten argue with Bernadette and maybe that pushed her to pull out the knife”
According to the guy that brought Kirsten home, he said she was alarmed but not frightened. She declined his offer to stay while she got to the door. However, there was a report that Kirsten was banging on her neighbor’s door with her fists, which suggests that she was afraid and desperate for the neighbor to answer her door. Another report stated that Bernadette attacked Kirsten from behind and was screaming (Kirsten was also screaming) when she was stabbing Kirsten. Bernadette said that before she stabbed Kirsten, she was trying to explain to Kirsten that she “wasn’t weird”, but Kirsten apparently kept telling her to “go away”, “go home” and “you’re that way” (reference to being a homosexual). Nothing that Kirsten apparently said or could have said justifies Bernadette “pulling out the knife”. A sane person would never do such a thing, no matter how desperate they were for popularity. Perhaps Kirsten sensed something dangerous about Bernadette when Bernadette was “explaining” she wasn’t weird and an alarmed Kirsten therefore desperately banged on her neighbor’s door.
“It seems odd that she was getting counseling that many years ago unless it was really severe”
Really? Was that considered unusual in the 80’s?
It was suggested that Bernadette’s parents were older than other Orinda parents and they were out of touch with and didn’t pay much attention to her. In order for Bernadette to pick up Kirsten in her father’s car, she lied and told her father she was babysitting but needed the car to be left in the driveway of the house she was babysitting at because she was worried someone might realize she was alone in the house, and therefore something bad might happen. He gave her the benefit of the doubt and left the car with her over a preposterous story even though she didn’t have her driver’s license, so it doesn't surprise me that her parents didn't connect the description of the vehicle and murderer with Bernadette.
“Of course B blamed Kirsten. The old " Let's blame the victim" game. To blame the victim means blaming her parents. After all, they raised her. They had to justify it”
There are comments on this blog from Bernadette or someone close to her explicitly stating that Kirsten’s murder was a result of her behavior and that she “deserved it” and that her parents failed to raise someone with common sense and kindness”. As stated previously, the bullying allegations are just a sick and repulsive attempt to vilify Kirsten with spurious accusations in order to justify her murder.
“You read it all the time”
Yes. It’s sick beyond words. Those that justify something so callous, vile and horrific are nothing but clots in the artery of humanity.
Sorry for the long comment, Lol.
I appreciate the long comment. You obviously know a lot more than I do about this case. The reason I was questioning the whole counseling sessions was a previous comment. With B's parents not paying too much attention to her makes me wonder why they would even know that she needed help of any kind. I can't imagine parents like that seeking help unless it was bigger problems than we know about. You know, B must have been concerned that things may not go well. Why else would you carry a weapon. Knowing this, why would she even go through with this plan? Was she so desperate to be friends with Kirsten that she would kill her if she was rejected? Sure, they were kids but it goes back to knowing right from wrong.
ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteYou’re welcome. There are others who certainly know far more about this than I.
“With B's parents not paying too much attention to her makes me wonder why they would even know that she needed help of any kind”
I agree. That makes sense. How could parents who are suggested to not be in tune with their daughter and oblivious to her emotional struggles know she needed help, unless it was more serious like you suggested. We will never know.
She was clearly mentally unstable and desperate and obsessed with being popular to a very unhealthy degree that I do think she planned to kill Kirsten if she didn’t get the reaction she wanted. There is no reasonable explanation for having such a large knife in the car. No one would leave a 15/18 inch knife in the car to cut vegetables. She then returned the knife to the kitchen after the murder, rather than the car where she supposedly found it.
Purple Haze- dear God, she put the knife in the kitchen to be used. Maybe she did that because a witness saw her car. It would not look good to have a huge knife in the car. She must have been thinking ahead. Bernadette didn't know 100% if Kirsten was dead or not ,did she? What would she have done if Kirsten had survived and pointed the finger at her. So she goes home and takes a walk with her mom. Unbelievable!
ReplyDeletePS- it has been a long time since anyone has posted on Jeanette's FB blog. Maybe she has given it up.
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham.
ReplyDeleteI know she put the knife back in the kitchen, but as stupid as this sounds, I actually didn’t envision the knife being used until you mentioned it. Bleah!! How disgusting!!
I don’t believe she didn’t know Kirsten was going to die. She not only stabbed Kirsten, but dragged the knife downwards in a “slicing” motion inflicting her with wounds 2 feet long. She butchered Kirsten, so I’m sure she intuited that it was unlikely Kirsten would survive her wounds. It’s so sad and horrific to think of the pain Kirsten was in.
Quote from a neighbor who saw Kirsten after Bernadette stabbed her:
“A murder this heinous is not something anyone just "forgives and forgets", least of all my family. I was there that night. I saw Kirsten's blood squirting all over my father as she struggled to breathe. She knew she was dying and the horror on her face as she bled out before us was something none of us will ever forget.
You may have served your time under the law but it will NOT be forgotten. The grotesque, premeditated nature of the savage murder you perpetrated demand that this follow you for the rest of your life.”
“What would she have done if Kirsten had survived and pointed the finger at her.”
It’s such a shame that wasn’t the case. Bernadette would have deserved everything coming to her.
“She goes home and takes a walk with her mom. Unbelievable!”
It just goes to show how detached, mentally unhinged and dangerous she was.
Hi. I don't think she has giving up her FB blog. She will keep it going as long as other blogs discuss her.
ReplyDelete*given up
ReplyDeletePurple Haze- I could get sick thinking of that poor girl dying like that. Bernadette had to have been strong to hold Kirsten and do that kind of damage. I feel sorry for the people that had to witness Kirsten's death. How do you get over it. That had to have messed them up for years. As far as the knife goes, that is enough to make one sick. Not knowing you are using a knife that just killed another human being is one thing. However Bernadette knew for 6 months what she used it for. It must not bothered her one bit. It is one thing to justify your dirty deed by blaming the victim. It is another thing to eat something that has been cut using a knife that killed another human being. That alone tells me a lot!
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It’s vile, despicable and disturbing.
“Bernadette had to have been strong to hold Kirsten and do that kind of damage”
Sick, deplorable and ghastly are words that come to mind when I think of how she inflicted Kirsten with such savage wounds and nonchalantly took a walk with her mother afterwards. Bernadette was described as chunky and appears to have been a tall girl. Kirsten was described as skinny and petite. Even if Bernadette didn’t attack Kirsten from behind, I don’t think Kirsten had a chance in defending herself against an enraged mentally unhinged reprobate of Bernadette’s size. The only thing she probably could have done was run.
“ It must not bothered her one bit"
No, she could detach herself from the murder. An article on this blog states that her parents and other people in her life didn’t notice anything was amiss in the 6 months after Kirsten’s murder/
“It is another thing to eat something that has been cut using a knife that killed another human being. That alone tells me a lot!”
Yes, or watching others eat something that has been cut using the knife. It turns my stomach. It really depicts the depths of her utter depravity.
Hi Purple haze! I'm just curious; where did you get the information that Bernie sliced Kirsten like that? That's not in any of the articles I've read. I'm not doubting you at all, I'm just wondering what you may have read that I have not.
ReplyDeleteHi Frankie. I saw it on one of the following: Murderpedia (Trial hears girl’s confession of east bay slaying – San Francisco Chronicle), pananche report, findadeath, the mammoth book of most bizarre crimes, lapuma article (stabbed with a butcher knife in a downward angle).
ReplyDeleteThank you, Purple haze.
ReplyDeleteI hope to catch up a little more on this case over the week-end. Every time I think I can just relax , something comes up.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome, Frankie.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend, Kmaham.
ReplyDeleteI read a few things yesterday. One thing I was confused about was the man who dropped Kirsten off. Did he jump out of the car to help her? He saw B go after her but I have not read where the man tried to help.
ReplyDeleteHi. No. I read that he offered to wait while Kirsten got to her door. He thought that Bernadette and kirsten had been in a fist fight. It was dark, so he probably couldn't see that Berndette was stabbing Kirsten. It all happened so fast.
ReplyDeleteI am not putting any blame on him but why didn't he try and break it up? After the car following them, I know red flags would have gone up. I could not have driven off. Again, not blaming him.
ReplyDeleteHi. I don’t know. I read that Kirsten wasn't alarmed when he was driving her home. He thought he was observing a fist fight and it happened very quickly. He only realized something was terribly wrong when he was chasing Bernadette. He then stopped chasing her and drove back to check on Kirsten.
ReplyDeleteIt just kind of bothered me knowing he did not get out of the car. He saw Bernadette coming up behind and they were fighting. I just wonder how things would have ended up if he had tried to help.
ReplyDeleteHe probably just didn't want to interfere in what he thought was "teenage girl drama", which is an understandable response from a man.
ReplyDelete" I just wonder how things would have ended up if he had tried to help."
It's possible she wouldn't have been murdered that night. However, Bernadette was obsessed with kirsten and if Kirsten had told her friends about Bernadette luring Kirsten out of her house under the pretence of a bobbies dinner and also that she thought Bernadette might be "that way", that may have pushed Bernadette over the edge and she may have tried to hurt her at some other time.
I'm not blaming Kirsten for thinking Bernadette was "weird". Not wanting to befriend someone and calling them out on their bizarre behavior is obviously no reason to kill. I think Bernadette was going to hurt someone at some point.
I just want to correct a comment. I wrote above that the guy driving Kirsten home "probably didn't see her getting stabbed". He didn't see her getting stabbed as he couldn't see clearly in the dark and it all happened so quickly
ReplyDeletePurple Haze- I see your point. Believe me, I am not blaming the man. It happens all of the time like that. People not wanting to get involved. For Bernadette to go after Kirsten in front of the driver just shows the level of determination to kill that she had. I have always heard about " crimes of passion" being so much worse. I have wondered if there was anyone else Bernadette was obsessed with. Why Kirsten? Was it the comment that was made during the skiing trip added to the fear of rejection. There has to be something people of all ages could learn from this. You can't escape from the fact there are people of ALL ages with mental "issues". However, kids and adults need to be able to identify some of the signs and know what to do. What buttons not to press when faced with what Kirsten was faced with.
ReplyDeleteKmaham, I believe she chose Kirsten to obsess over because Kirsten was everything she wanted to be. Plus she was the Queen Bee, so to speak.
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham,
ReplyDeleteI understand your point and know you are not blaming the man. Yes, she was mentally disturbed and intent on hurting Kirsten.
"Why Kirsten"
Kirsten and Bernadette had a mutual best friend. Bernadette had known the best friend since elementary school and was jealous of her friendship with Kirsten. Kirsten also achieved what Bernadette failed to achieve. I think it was mentioned somewhere that Kirsten being best friends with Bernadette's best friend is what started Bernadette's obsession with her. If it wasn't Kirsten, it would have been someone else.
Yes, we can learn to be calm in the presence of a hysterical mentally unhinged person and placate them until you get safely behind your door. I don't know if "signs" in Bernadette could have been identified. Some people are very good at hiding their mental instability.
"You can't escape from the fact there are people of ALL ages with mental "issues"
It was more than just mental issues with Bernadette. She appears to have been insane.
Frankie, did you perceive Kirsten as a "queen bee? I didn't see her that way, actually.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I pictured her after reading so much about her; the prettiest, the most popular, etc. How do you picture her?
ReplyDeleteI pictured her as a cute, self assured, talented, mouthy little teenager (lots of teenage girls are mouthy).
ReplyDeleteShe was described as a pretty, vibrant, popular sociable, smiley petite teenager by those who knew her. Most of her friends were apparently described as blonde and although Kirsten didn't have their "blonde looks", she was a pretty girl who was suggested to have out-shun her friends with her personality and flair.
I know she was portrayed as a "queen bee" in the movie. I just thought that was one of many exaggerations in the movie.
I did not know they shared the same best friend. Interesting! When I see Kirsten's picture, I see confidence. She was cute and natural looking. I could see where she would have had a lot of friends. Regardless of what she may or may not have done or said to others, she did not deserve to die. Our world has changed so much. However, things that go on with teenagers seem to have hardly change at all.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, Purple haze. That's how I pictured her, too. I remember an article where someone stated "everyone wanted to be like Kirsten." That's why I've always pictured her as a "Queen Bee".
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham,
ReplyDeleteYes, they did. I agree.
“Regardless of what she may or may not have done or said to others, she did not deserve to die”.
No, she didn’t. Most teenage girls “say things to others”. From what I have read about what Kirsten supposedly said, it’s tame in comparison to people I knew. We all have our different levels of sensitivity I suppose.
No, things haven’t changed with teenagers. Actually, it’s probably worse.
Hi Frankie.
ReplyDeleteOh, I understand why you thought so now. I just find it a little amusing that small petite sweet looking Kirsten could have been a QB. She looks so much like a person I knew who was a sweet, happy, gentle person and I can't help but think of her when I see a pic of Kirsten.
I'm also not attempting to portray Kirsten as an innocent little angel, which my above comment suggests. She was a teenager with faults like every other teenager, but she certainly DID NOT deserve to be killed. She was so tame and innocuous in comparison to people I knew. If Bernadette or anyone else found Kirsten's mild comments offensive, they would have found it horrendous and unbearable to go to the school I went to. Like I wrote above, we all have our different levels of sensitivity.
ReplyDeleteNothing Kirsten said or did justifies her murder. She was killed over something so stupid and insignificant.
ReplyDeleteSadly, this type of murder will be played out over and over again. in my opinion, what happens after the murder is different than most cases. The knife story alone is total BS. If the knife would have been a pocketknife, I would have bought the story. Did Bernadette's parents really buy into that? What message does that send the killer? It is OK to lie, to condone, harass, justify etc. Bernadette could do whatever she wanted at that point. It was all Kirsten's fault in their eyes. It still is.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the Queen Bee statement... I really do not think it has much to do with looks but self-confidence, personality etc. in my opinion (once again), Kirsten looked like a happy, fun and positive person. People gravitate to that type of person. Everyone wants to be that kind of person. It comes from within.
ReplyDeleteI didn't meant to imply it had anything to do with looks. I know it doesn't. I just thought she looked too adorable with her sweet smile and doe eyes to be the stereotypical QB bitch.
ReplyDelete"Sadly, this type of murder will be played out over and over again"
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean?
Do you mean a murder this horrific will be committed again and again?
"Did Bernadette's parents really buy into that?"
It seems that they did. We can't know for sure. They supported her anyway, whether they did or not.
I'm not suggesting they weren't badly affected, but I would be devastated if a child I brought into the world committed such a monstrous murder.
I wonder would she have killed again if she got away with Kirsten's murder as it's possible she could have gotten away with it, which I find ludicrous. They had a good description of her, yet couldn't tie her to the crime. Just as well law enforcement handed it over to the FBI.
People were so convinced it was Nancy, it's fortunate Nancy or her family members were not physically assaulted.
It's so tragic. As I wrote above: she was killed over something so stupid and insignificant.
I didn't mean to imply that I felt Kirsten was the "stereotypical Queen Bee bitch." You can be a Queen Bee and be nice. The most popular girl at my high school was popular because she was much like Kirsten - outgoing, friendly, and most of all, KIND. That's why I pictured Kirsten as a Queen Bee.
ReplyDeleteThe writer Dan Bronson who wrote the teleplay has written his autobiography called Confessions of a Hollywood Nobody. He probably mentions Death of a Cheerleader and the murder that Jeanette Bernadette committed. It would be interesting to remake the movie and follow the murderer after she was released --her marriage, the two kids, her new persona as a "life-hacker" Martha Stewart wannabe.
ReplyDeleteHi. I know you didn't mean anything negative about your comment, Frankie. I was just comparing Kirsten to the Stacey Lockwood character that was based on her, which was a perfect representation of other stereotypical QB's in movies. Kirsten was also portrayed as a stereotypical QB in the Rolling Stone article (unsympathetic, malicious, insufferable superbitch). My comments above are very silly as I know how sweet a person may or may not look has nothing to do with it. There wasn't really a QB in the school I went to (all girls Catholic school). There were plenty of bitches though, including me :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteIt certainly would be interesting, but it's very unlikely to happen. You never know, I suppose. If it was a possibility, I'm sure she would do everything in her power to stop it.
Frankie - add long blonde hair to your stereotypical QB bitch. I think we all have different views on what the QB looks like in their own minds.
ReplyDeletePurple Haze- what I meant about this type of murder being played out is the whole jealousy between friends whether they are casual or best friends.
Hi kmaham,
ReplyDeleteThank you for explaining your point.Jealousy appears to be the fulcrum of many teenage murders.
purple Haze- Teenagers...you have to love them. They are moody, impulsive, rude etc. Teenagers can be cruel. They like who they like and it is hard to get into their circle. Most will give up and move on. I can't wrap my head around doing what was done to Kirsten. Don't they call that "overkill"?
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham,
ReplyDeleteYes, they certainly are. When I think back to how much of an asshole I was when I was a teen, I cringe with embarrassment. Fortunately, a lot of people grow out of it.
Yes, Kirsten's injuries were horrific. Not only was she stabbed but she was "sliced". I think of the vicious manner in which Kirsten was attacked from behind and the horror, panic, shock and excruciating pain she must have felt when Bernadette was plunging the knife into her, the desperation she must have felt trying to get away from Bernadette and the sadness and helplessness she must have felt knowing she was dying.
Nothing Kirsten supposedly said or did justified such a savage attack. As I wrote above, her comments were so tame, imo.
My dad didn't agree with her release, she doesn't deserve to be in society and have a secret life!!!
ReplyDeleteShe was not and still is not fully rehabilitated
ReplyDeleteWe all know the party never existed because if in fact it did then why did she wear sweatpants? Nobody who is trying to impress someone will wear sweatpants but something a little more classy! She is still the same insane clown because she always has a snarky remark to make. If you look at her Facebook page she has deleted so many comments because a certain person has outed her.
ReplyDeleteMy dad didn't agree with her release, she doesn't deserve to be in society and have a secret life!!!
ReplyDeleteHi.
ReplyDeleteYour dad?
No, the party didn't exist. Her name has been available on line for quite a while - certainly long before this blog.
There was a suggestion made elsewhere on the blog that murders should be on some sort of register like pedophiles. I agree with it.
Send Jeannette back to prison- you seem to know a lot about the case. Do you know the family? Have you been in contact with her?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteNo i don't know jeannette but i know kirsten wasn't rude and snotty like sur os portrayed in the movie. Yes, my dad didn't agree with her release
ReplyDeleteDid your dad work with Bernadette or something?
ReplyDeleteSend Jeannette back...- I was hoping you had the inside scoop on the case.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see what she would do if her husband had an affair on her. If she does a lot of cooking she must have quite a selection of knives in the house. He must be a real wimp or he never closes his eyes around her for fear she'll stab him five times like she did with her first victim.
ReplyDeleteSoneone know who the homecoming aueen is and. Miamontes royalties are. Bet. Bernadette wishes she was one and. Kirsten woukd of been one ig not crowned homecoming queen. Anyone know anyone.

ReplyDeleteKirsten knew Bernadette was a wannabee trying hard to social climb for. Nancy Mark it was easier gor her to be accepted before. Bernadette Nancy was ssked to join Bobbies and was popular Bernadette it was harder for her she made bobbies and was popular for a minute thwn she crashed into the wall. She was angry cayse she couldnt accomplish what. Kirsten could. She was never popular and probaly was teased earlier over Protti private the fointain no obe drank from.

ReplyDeleteWTH is with the repetitive posts by the same person?
ReplyDelete"Her boyfriend dumped her cause she had hidden issues and. Kirsten boyfriend never liked. Bernadette and he was friends with. Kirstens boyfriend and he hated"
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth do you mean? What you wrote doesn't make sense.
Purple Haze- none of it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham. No, it doesn't. It's nonsensical rubbish.
ReplyDeleteWTH is "protti private"?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it have something to do with a water fountain? I remember reading something about it. The above posts needs to be edited. I quit reading them because I was not sure the person was serious.
ReplyDeleteOh, I think I remember that now. Thanks. I thought the person above was posting nonsense for shits and giggles. Why, I don't know.
ReplyDeleteProfit private sounds made up or stupid.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what the meaning of it is. Something to dovwith a drinking fountain at the catholic grammar school. I will never gorgive. Bernadette for tge murder and allowing 2 completely innocent girls to take the blame. I hear shes involved in the PGA north golf cpurse in Dallas and a nurse I bet her husband knows and her kids she probaly blamed it all on bullying which wasnt the case Kirsten.must of liked her some she d never gotten in her car. Bernadette probaly told her she admired her and she greaked out and ran off. Bernadette obviouly had issues og being tejected shes probaly used to it now after all shecwent thrpugh she made that choice.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, Bernadette must of said something worse than admiring Kirsten. That would not have been enough to freak someone out enough to run out of the car.
ReplyDeleteHi Kmaham,
ReplyDeleteYour point makes sense. It seems that Kirsten thought Bernadette liked her in a sexual way. Bernadette said Kirsten referred to her "as that way" (a reference to a homosexual).
Bernadette wss nothing but a wannabe who couldnt be. She couldnt ever measure up to. Kirsten or her circle. Now. Nancy Kane did for awhile or w s s close enough Bernadeete wasnt gping to she desperately wanted to. She was liked before she killed. Kirsten not like Nancy. Kane or. Kirstens group. I doubt Bernadette has changed that much
ReplyDeleteShe still refers to herself as a lifehacker and she caused drama in jail over a jailbird she met through leter writing and if he did cheat on her who can blame him. He was as crazy ss she is thpugh he wss in prison for a resson. Bernadette and her family shpuld move to. England her minds to sick for her to changw. Its possible she did but why she stoll refrrs to herself as a lifehacker makes me think shes proid. Its still to late for the Costas if she has changed they will never get Kirsten back and it wont bring. Kirsten back. We dont know she hasnt murdered since then just hasnt been caught yet. If so shed allow someone else to taje the blame. I cant forgive her for.letting 2 innocent girls take the blame and the fact she took a life of a 15 year old girl who had her whole future ahead of her and would ofmade something out of her lifeand gad alot go i ng for her
Mi i still wish someone from. Miramonte would get on hete and tell us who the homecoming queen is and the elected royaltoes they were Kirstens circle of friends. I bet and also tell us all about tge case and public humiliation in courtand tell us about the girls who got blamed be intetesting os there a book out on. Bernadette and tgevtrial and whole case thers one on. Missy. Availa. Missys murder.
ReplyDeleteYou should definitely read your comment before hitting the post button! Go back to grammar school
DeleteDo you type comments with your feet? You are ruining the comments section with your nonsense. Please go away.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize that this murder was the subject of so many dissertations for university students. If you google course hero/Bernadette Protti there is a website that has many in depth thesis and papers on Protti Tomanka. There is a $9 charge for membership but there are worthwhile articles. Also, it's interesting to note that her husband Gary has also published his dissertation and is on there.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous. Thank you for that information. Have you read any of the dissertations yet?
ReplyDeleteThe one from Virginia Tech is extensive and detailed. It has a lot of information and mentions that the knife was jammed in the middle of the front seats. It also has names of neighbors and students who knew Bernadette/Jeannette.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Were you the helpful individual that told people about the article on world cat. If so, did you read the article?
Jammed in the middle of the from seats? I though it was hiding between the back seats. Was the handle sticking out?
SB CN DM and LP, you going to the 30 year reunion? I hope you make it SB. Sincerely, JW.
