Bernadette Protti found! New name Jeannette Tomanka!

Bernadette Protti aka Jeannette Tomanka

For many years I have been reading about Kirsten Costas and Bernadette Protti. Since the time I watched the lifetime movie "A Friend to Die For", I found myself obsessed with this case. Years later the Costas family is still in pain and they will never have their beloved child back. But Bernadette and her family have moved on had children successful careers (Google Virgina Protti Varela) she is a CEO now! I have dedicated this blog to honor Kirsten's memory.

Virginia Protti Varela the CEO

Bernadette has changed her name to Jeannette Tomanka. A quick Google search and you will see what she has been up to. She also runs a fake Facebook and Twitter account where she uses her name but changes the location to through web sleuths off into thinking that's not her. But pay close attention to the page. She never shows her face or has photos and her friends and family call her Bernie, but she quickly deletes those comments. I don't know why other blogs will not out her. It isn't illegal and I would never post her numbers or addresses even though they are easily google-able. I'm not protecting a murderer. If she committed that crime today she would still be locked up.

Oh, and Virginia and Jeannette or Bernie don't even bother with the dumb and senseless comments you leave.  I suggest you change your name again or better yet just apologize to the Costas family and own the fact your're a killer. That's a fact. And now your sister is a a millionaire and it was her knife. So she claims. The Costas family should sue you clowns for every penny your worth since you guys are not "poor"  anymore.

Hi Karen

Do you think it's Bernadette - is that what the J is for? Or her sister Virginia? It seems when valid points come up, especially regarding how it is all on Bernadette if her kids suffer - or the movie, those ridiculous comments appear.

I agree with you that there is so many valid and on point comments on this blog.

I had no idea about what you just posted that, "If Bernadette and her friends were smarter and more sensitive, Bernadette and one of her friends wouldn't have joked about their fellow bobbies in a cabin getting attacked by someone with a knife, especially in light of what happened to Kirsten. "

That is truly horrific behavior on their part - is this the same friend that Bernadette was hanging out with prior to the murder? Really makes me wonder what that friend knew if it was the same friend - especially since I believe Bernadette premeditated the murder of Kirsten.

Looking at someone's diary left unattended is nothing compared to Bernadette and her friend joking about someone they knew getting stabbed especially since Bernadette is the Murderer! The more I hear about Bernadette the more sick, deviant and evil she truly is - absolutely no soul exists in her.

Karen,

I always wondered why, after Virginia lied and said it was her knife for cutting up fruits and veggies in her car, (yeah right what an outright lie) - why wasn't Virginia in trouble with the police for having/riding around with such a huge 18" knife in her car?? There are laws about what knives you can carry as far as type and size.

This web site by the author is hard to take serious. The author's comments certainly make me wonder if she knows what it is to be a professional and also if she knows either Bernadette or Virginia. I put the author's comments in quotations.

----------

https://www.jhmoncrieff.com/killers-get-second-chance/

"To Bernadette Protti, Costas was the ultimate symbol of her failure, and when the popular girl refused to be Protti’s friend, she signed her own death warrant."

Bernadette is a murderer and Kirsten did nothing to deserve what was done to her. The author seems to be blaming the victim with that comment.

"... I was shocked to find at least one website devoted entirely to terrorizing her: revealing her new name and occupation, mocking her blog posts, encouraging others to bully her online and then reporting the woman’s responses with vicious glee. The owner of the site points out that Protti is indeed a “life hacker,” as she hacked Costas’s life away, a Freudian slip I’m sure Protti didn’t even think of."

"Mary Bell (pictured above) was even younger than Protti when she started her ill-fated career as a murderess."

"Some (probably many) would argue that Homolka is only free today because she lied about her involvement in her husband’s crimes. But what of Bell and Protti, two children who–hopefully–have grown up and learned from their mistakes?"

It's as if the author is relying on people not being aware of Mary Bell's history. For example, unlike Bernadette who had a nice home and was popular to some degree - Mary Bell had absolutely nothing except getting abused, watching her own mother have sex and being forced into the sex by her mother and the mother's lovers. Absolutely NO Comparison here at all to Bernadette- Mary Beth was literally a little child when she killed Bernadette was 16 - yet the author makes a pathetic failed attempt to try to make one.

https://allthatsinteresting.com/mary-bell

"As for Protti, she expressed great remorse during her confession to the police, but her critics point to the fact that, since she only confessed once she knew the police were about to arrest her, she didn’t feel too guilty about it. Then again, she was sixteen years old. "

The author blatantly chooses to ignore the 6 months immediately following the murder and the way that Bernadette behaved.

"The idea that someone would spend a great deal of their spare time terrorizing this woman so many years later disturbs me. It calls to mind villagers coming for Frankenstein’s monster with pitchforks and torches. Protti committed her crime thirty-three years ago. She paid her debt to society, even though that debt may seem shockingly small. She still paid it, and I’m sure she lives with regret every single day. No need to torture her further."

I would like to see this author tell this to Kirsten's parents. Or to any parent(s) of a murdered child.

" (In the case of Homolka, I’m surprised she hasn’t left the country, but as a felon, she’s probably not allowed to.)"

I guess the author doesn't think Bernadette should leave the country? Wow and she has the audacity to criticize this blog?

"There is no proof or indication that Costas was a bully–the most I’ve been able to find is that she poked fun at Protti’s out-of-date skiing gear once, but Protti’s desire to be accepted by the popular crowd and Costas’s rejection of her might have been the last straw. It’s hard to say. If anything, I think Protti hated herself–not Costas, but that hate was misdirected."

My, oh my could it be any more obvious who the author favors??

"PATRICIA LYNNE AKA PATRICIA JOSEPHINE
I think the sentences should be longer, but I also thinks its wrong of people to hound them and try to make their lives miserable. Especially that blogger. You don’t have to think they’re a good person now, but you’re being a shit person yourself.

The latest attempt at a poem shows that it is an English person writing the latest crap. Blighty is a slang word for Britain. It must have been the same person who wrote that "spell".

At December 19, 2018 at 2:49 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm British and Blighty is a well known word so not necessarily written by a British. There's a very anti British feel on here. I wrote criticising the spell, it came across as sinister. You will find that very few British people have heard of Kirsten Costas so I doubt if there are many of us on here. That poor girl needs to rest in peace not be the centre of all this bickering and crap jokes.

At December 19, 2018 at 3:02 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

It’s a bit much to equate anti British sentiment to the comment: “someone British must have written the blighty comment because blighty is a British word”. It’s not just the Blighty comment either. The slang peppered in some comments is British. The stupid “Lily the Pink” song posted recently is also British. The resident troll on this blog is from Liverpool. There is nothing wrong with you being a British person. No-one has an issue with you because you are British. Maybe the spell was meant for the person who posted a picture of Stephanie. I think the picture should be removed by the blog owner. I wouldn’t even call the latest trolling jokes. They are very cringe worthy.

Maybe so. But the movie has been shown all over the world, from America to England, from France to Australia etc. I'm not American and the movie was shown a couple of times on tv.

At December 20, 2018 at 12:48 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The anti British sentiment has been expressed in previous comments and one person even called someone a stupid (or similar adjective) brit. Why mention race? A stupid person is stupid regardless of race. It can be a war zone here considering it's supposed to honour a dead girl!

At December 20, 2018 at 1:16 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Is British not a nationality, rather than a "race"? I understand your point, but I think that comment was directed at Stephanie and judging from her behaviour on this blog and elsewhere, it's clear that she is indeed very stupid and it's a fact that she's a British person,i.e, she's a stupid Brit, but I can see why you would find it offensive. I wouldn't call the immature trolling attempts of grown adults a "war zone". It's best not to take the comments seriously, or you could counter them calmly with facts. No-one is against you here. I'm not against you either, considering you called me "vile", "scum" and other colourful names.

Did anyone ever think that the popularity of slasher films in the 80's gave Bernadette/Jeannette the idea to bring a knife in the car? So many horror films in that decade revolved around a maniac with a knife.

I do not believe that slasher /horror films then or now are responsible in any way. If Bernadette was infatuated by a slasher film, it was something that was already sick and twisted inside of her that would make it appeal to her and even more evil that she would act on such a horrific idea. It also doesn't explain how Bernadette had such a lack of a conscience for her behavior the 6 months following the murderer - until the FBI knew it was her who did it. Even the FBI stated in a report that Bernadette had "No Remorse".

https://clickamericana.com/topics/crime/the-real-death-of-a-cheerleader-1985

Quoted from the link above, "Although the story below was published in Ladies’ Home Journal — and was the topic of the 1994 made-for-TV movie “Death of a Cheerleader”/”A Friend to Die For” starring Tori Spelling and Kellie Martin — this story has personal meaning to me, because I was a student at the same school. Along with the rest of the town, I watched this whole tale unfold sadly and slowly during the course of several months.
In addition to presenting the story as it was published in November of 1985, I have also added some photos from my own collection, including one from a trip Kirsten and I both took to Washington DC with a school group, as well as other pictures from our ’85 class yearbook."

The person who wrote this also includes beautiful pictures of Kirsten, many of which I see on this site.

Bernadette had uses a " PAY PHONE " to call Mrs. Costas to lure Kirsten out of the house with a lie.

When Bernadette made that call - she had already decided to kill Kirsten. That's why she and her clothes were so dumpy and not pretty or not even nice casual clothing.

Bernadette went to private grade school called St. Perpetua’s in Lafayette Ca. Next to Orinda. The school was a freak show. The priests were rapist. One was transferred there because of problems with boys. Word was that girls were safe because raping a girl is irresponsible and could get them fired because girls could get pregnant and priest need to bring money in, not pay out for 18 years. So start the story there. Her parents poor,.. yes, but spent money on that. Interesting. It was a strange time growing up around religious freaks. The judgemental insecurities started there for Bernadette and everyone else that was raised in those conditions.

I didn’t know Kirsten very well. She was friends with my sister, came around our house a few times. I do remember she was very insecure and would pick on B clearly an attempt to boost her confidence. Sad because K had it all as I saw it. I do remember all the stories before and after the killing. Who knows what was true or not. But I do know that two families had to move out of town because the girls wore all black and kept to them selves.. Believe me it was a 6 month witch hunt. I remember the day every girl attended school when the killer had been caught but we had no name; if they had to fly back, leave the hospital, watever, no girl wanted to be accused for even 24 hours even if they would be exonerated the next day or week. that HS was a tough place especially for girls.

Word around town was that K was stabbed 18 times. I believe that the real number was held by the cops. I remember one time coming back from skiing, my friend and I were saying how we should stab the killer 18 times for what she did. Obviously we didn’t know B was the killer. She threw up sour cream and onion chips. Smelled so bad. Couldn’t get the smell out of car for weeks. B was so quiet of a person we figured just talking about something like that made her sick.

Between 10-15 years ago bullying came into the news. i remember always thinking that B’s case would had been much different today. I still can’t help from thinking that, but largely I think B killed K because K was blocking B from her rise in popularity.

This was GI GI's brother

Where did this come from? It would be best not to mention the real names of the people because a certain weirdo who lurks around here will look them up, probably stalk them, and pretend to be them here. Don't take offence to this, but it's often hard to believe a person who claims to have known Bernadette or Kirsten. Kirsten was reported to have been close friends with the girl you mentioned so it doesn't make sense that she was in the friend's house 'only a few times'. I'm not saying what you wrote didn't happen, but if Kirsten did 'pick on Bernadette', why didn't Bernadette give the examples at her trial, or give examples when she was arrested and questioned about what happened if it could have affected the outcome of her sentence? Bernadette had very thin skin, so the littlest things would have been considered 'picking on her', which her friends commented on. She also tried too hard to be something she isn't, so yeah, that would draw a bit of ridicule, especially from a teenager. Sorry, but I don't feel the least bit sorry for Bernadette. She was a selfish brat with serious jealous issues and often voiced her embarrassment of her parents being a little older and didn't appreciate the fact that she had two living parents who loved her. Bernadette was physically bigger and taller than Kirsten, so if Kirsten was annoying her, she should have told her to fuck off. Kirsten was reported to be a confident bubbly girl, so it is unusual to read an apparent account of her being insecure, but EVERY teenager is insecure on some level.I agree with the last statement about B killing Kirsten because she thought she blocked her rise in popularity. If Bernadette's parents 'were poor', how did they afford to send their five older children to private schools?Itsaboutime is the only one that can really judge whether or not that account of Kirsten and Berndette is authentic.

At January 16, 2019 at 6:37 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Another thing that doesn't make sense is if Kirsten picked on Bernadette, why did Bernadette idolise her? (according to her friend.) Why was bernadette desperate to be near Kirsten so much that she worked in the school office to be near her? Surely you would hate the sight of someone picking on you and would want to spend as little time in their presence as possible, popular or not. What do you think?

I was very surprised about the comment in the preview during the car scene where they have the actor portraying Kirsten telling the actor portraying Bernadette that "you want to be me" - that was so true I think.

Hi again. I watched the new/remake of the movie. It was basically the same story but I do feel it had important major differences, in "what" the movie put emphasis on or not, in the remake unlike the original.

I feel it really focused more on:

- The good work ethic that Kirsten's parents instilled in her, to work hard for what she wanted. It showed that Kirsten did just that in whatever she did. Kirsten earned what she had, her grades, her practicing to make cheerleader, etc...

- The relationship between Kirsten, (and the other girls too), with Nancy. Nancy narrated the story - which was pleasantly surprising considering what Bernadette had put her through.

- The car scene. Even though we will never truly know what happened that horrible night, this car scene made a lot of sense with Bernadette's stalking mentality of Kirsten (the way she coveted everything Kirsten had and how popular she was, etc...) I feel that if there had been another girl that was more popular than Kirsten, had more than Kirsten had, that Bernadette would have killed her, but Kirsten was the one who, in Bernadette's eyes, had it all.

- It really focused on Bernadette having the problem, NOT Kirsten. Bernadette just wanted/expected things without being willing to earn them - to go that extra mile to achieve her goals. She was jealous, petty, insecure, angry and whiny! I loved the part when the principal had to explain to her that crying would not get her what she wanted in the world, a good job, etc... just because she cried did she think she'd be given a job, etc...? Bernadette really felt entitled that's for sure!

- It primarily focused on Bernadette as the sick and twisted person she is. Showed how fixated she was on Kirsten and how she didn't even appreciate how good Kirsten and the girls in their group were to her. Bernadette stalked Kirsten, obsessing over her and coveting who and what Kirsten had. Always wanting more and just stalking Kirsten all the time, where is she? what is Kirsten doing? Bernadette is truly a psycho!

- Showed how Bernadette had no remorse, just as the FBI later stated. It spent more time showing how Bernadette acted after the murder before she got caught.

- Showed her coming home after the murder, cleaning the knife, disposing of her clothing. I did find it hard to believe though that with all the blood on her and her hands that Bernadette was able to sneak back into her home unnoticed without having left bloody hand prints all over - impossible! Which is why I always believed that someone else in that family had to have known what Bernadette did - just too much blood (and blood in the car also). Interesting how this version does NOT show Virginia lying about the knife for Bernadette.. Hmmmm.....

- This remake really makes it very clear, finally, that Bernadette had no intention of writing any note or fessing up to anything UNTIL AFTER speaking with the FBI and knowing that they knew it was her.

I felt it did NOT focus on:

- The LIE that Kirsten bullied Bernadette. If anything, this remake shows Kirsten and her friends were very good to Bernadette and that it was Bernadette who just wanted more, more, more and would kill to get what she think she deserved - which is what she did when she killed Kirsten, because if she couldn't use her, she was getting her out of the way!

----------

I feel the change of focus and what this remake spent more air time on in the movie is very critical because in this version it is very clear that Bernadette stalked Kirsten. That Bernadette is very sick and twisted, entitled, jealous, etc...

P.S.

Even though they did put some focus on being the best at the high school and the pressure to be the best - they made it clear that Kirsten had earned what she had achieved through hard work and practice. That Kirsten maybe could be a little snippy at times but not in a mean way - more like Kirsten had high standards that she lived up to and worked hard to maintain.

The ski comment was a flash in the pan, not the big deal of bullying like Bernadette tried to twist it into.

Also, the tryouts to be a cheerleader, same thing. Flash in the pan, showing the girls supporting each other during tryouts including supporting Bernadette.

Unlike the first movie -Hopefully this remake with its focusing on how psycho Bernadette is, people will now be able to focus on the true facts of the case.

Here is a review found on google:

https://hiddenremote.com/2019/02/02/lifetimes-death-of-a-cheerleader-remake/

-----
In this review, actress Kellie Martin talks of having had to go to "a very dark place" when she acted in the original movie, she states, ""I was grateful I didn't have to play that character again because you really have to go to some very dark places in order to put yourself in that girl's shoes. When I made the movie, I think [Protti] was in prison," Martin told ET of her character, Angela Delvecchio, in the original movie. "It was shocking to the community that her sentence was not that extensive. So when I was making it, my whole goal was I wanted to make sure that I created a sense of empathy. I wanted the viewers to see what happened, why this happened, why she had this moment where she decided to kill someone else. It's crazy to put yourself in that mind frame and I did not want to have to revisit that part of it again at all."

https://www.etonline.com/kellie-martin-on-returning-for-death-of-a-cheerleader-remake-and-er-turning-25-exclusive-118534

I think it speaks volumes to how sick and twisted Bernadette is - I hope Bernadette is receiving some kind of ongoing intensive mental help because she is free and I wouldn't want her to kill anyone else.

Thanks for the in depth review. You're a good writer. I'm honestly very surprised that this movie didn't vilify Kirsten like its predecessor. Are you surprised? Bernadette wasn't unfairly portrayed as the victim that did no wrong and I'm pleasantly surprised about that. I'm going to look at this movie at some point, but I don't think I would want to see Kirsten's character getting stabbed.

The real Nancy? Was she called Nancy in the movie? What was the relationship between Nancy and Kirsten similar to the first movie?

You're welcome. I was very surprised that they didn't vilify Kirsten like they did in the first movie. This remake seemed more objective in focusing on Bernadette having the problem. As for the stabbing part, thankfully it was nothing like the original movie - which I'm very glad about how they really toned that down a lot.
You will know it was Nancy who narrated in the remake because of the comment she had made to Kirsten about wanting to see your blood drip. It also gave Nancy's character in the remake an opportunity to clarify her position and also shows how poor Nancy was blamed while Bernadette just continued on as remorseless as ever while Nancy was being blamed. The relationship between Nancy and Kirsten was addressed in the movie and it was clear there was friction both ways but again - it did not over focus on it like the original. Instead, the real focus was on Bernadette being the one with the problem.

Does anyone besides me think, at the very least, that Bernadette's mother knew what she did to Kirsten?

This is a quote from the article in People Magazine right here on this blog:

"An hour earlier on that peaceful summer evening, Elaine Protti had suggested a walk when her daughter, Bernadette, returned home in the family Pinto. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

I want to give Mrs Protti the benefit of the doubt that she didn't know Bernadette killed Kirsten that night. Maybe she suspected something was off, but was in denial. It doesn't make sense that Bernadette was able to clean her car at night, walk into her house undetected whilst wearing blood stained clothing, have a shower, dispose of the blood stained clothes and then have a walk with her mother at 11:00pm? Wasn't Kirsten stabbed a half an hour before that? Maybe Bernadette was wearing something else under the blood stained clothing and disposed of the clothing before going home. What about the blood on her hands and shoes and how did no one notice that when she walked through her house.

I didn't want to see the scene where the character who played Kirsten was stabbed, but I was hoping it would accurately depict the horror and suffering Bernadette put Kirsten through. I was also hoping the characters would be of a similar height and size to Kristen and Bernadette to show how terrifying it was for Kirsten to have someone who is taller and physically bigger than her lunging at her from behind like a crazed animal and overpowering her on the ground as she stabbed her. It would let people be in doubt as to who the real villain always was in this tragic case.

I'm assuming the characters don't look like the people they were based on out of respect for Kirsten's family.

I'm sorry to ask again, but did the real Nancy narrate this or the character she was based on.

Without a doubt she didn't care a damn about what she did at all and only cried for herself. I'm glad the movie put that across.

What was it that Kirsten said in the infamous skis incident? Was it "crummy" and is than an offensive word in the States?. if someone thought your skis were a little funny when I was a teen, they wouldn't have described them as "crummy". They would have said "the state of your shitty skis, you scruffy bitch". I'm serious. It makes me wonder how Bernadette would have survived at my school.

I do not know if it was the actual voice of Nancy that did the bit of narration, or an actress's voice -I would think an actress.

I do not know that her mother did anything. I just believe it was hard for her or someone else NOT to have known something because Bernadette would have had to have a lot of blood on her hands, clothes, hair and in the vehicle. Just so odd that so quickly they say that her and her mom took a walk - did they really?? We have only their word to go on, food for thought I think.

I don't think a lot of people who watched the original movie or maybe even the remake, seem to understand. Poor Kirsten's death has NOTHING to do with bullying - and ONLY to do with an unstable Bernadette who lacks morals and has no conscious who killed the girl, who in her eyes, "had it all". If there had been some other girl who Bernadette had thought was the one who had it all - she would have killed her.

Bernadette had to come up with some lie to try to save face (as if that were even possible). No one uses an 18" butcher knife to chop vegetables (especially in a vehicle driving around with such a huge knife) and one comment does not make someone a bully.

To those who have see the remake:

Do yous recall near the end of the movie, the 2 girls who were talking after the trial, (looked like they were in some hallway by a staircase)? They were talking about how the pressure to be the best and succeed that created the circumstances that caused this to happen and that it did not have to be Bernadette or Kirsten?

Those were not their exact words but that pretty much is what they were saying, basically blaming the environment for the situation (murder). I disagree in that even if there had been such pressure, it takes a "special kind of sick/evil" to resort to murder.

I also think it's a slight against the mentally ill to say Bernadette was sick. Clearly there was something wrong with her but what person who is mentally ill enough to brutally butcher another person can then immediately act so normal and interact with those closest to the victim and not only do well, but enjoy themselves? Only a psycho I think.

Sorry, I didn't see the movie, but I'm going to reply anyway.

That's a shame that a reasonably good movie ended with a BS statement. If pressure to succeed was a precursor to murder, the population of the world would be drastically smaller.

"it takes a "special kind of sick/evil" to resort to murder."

Absolutely. Just look at Bernadette's non nonchalant behaviour after Kirsten's murder. How does "pressure to succeed" make a person so devoid of a conscience that they can nonchalantly discuss Kirsten's murder with her friends in class, or thrive in their life knowing they brutally murdered someone, or watch on as someone else is getting accused and harassed for the murder they committed, or joke about bobbies members getting attacked by a knife wielding maniac in a cabin (her good friend who stuck by her gave that story in an interview for an article). It seems that Kirsten finally realised the full extent of the unhealthy obsession Bernadette had with her, which made her freak out and run away from the car. Bernadette then stalked her "bumper to bumper" and cowardly ambushed her from behind and stabbed her to death. There was something innately wrong with Bernadette from the outset. If she didn't kill Kirsten, she probably would have hurt someone else eventually. I agree with your point that someone else could have just as easily been the focus of her obsession and could have been murdered. Perhaps the mutual friend of Bernadette's and Kirsten's could have been a target.

Did you post the comment a few weeks ago about Kirsten's friend's brother?

WHAT does this even mean? --
"Protti’s family put a lot of emphasis on giving their time and money to the church and showing compassion. These days, I heard Bernadette’ Protti’s mother is somewhat bitter by what happened to her daughter."

Bernadette's mother is bitter??? This bible thumping woman is bitter about what happened to her daughter? Where is her compassion and empathy for Kirsten? This family has serious issues.

I haven't seen it yet. Anonymous gave an excellent synopsis of the film. Maybe the characters didn't look like the people they portrayed out of respect for Kirsten's family.

The original film didn't portray Kirsten or her family in a flattering way and it most certainly gave the impression Kirsten was the cause of her own horrific murder, so I find it curious why you would prefer the original biased one-sided movie. What in your opinion was worse about the new movie in comparison to the original?

Hi Anonymous, thanks for posting the timeline. It was an interesting read. In an attempt to understand Bernadette's behaviour, what do you think of the possibility of her being a covert narcissist? Perhaps you have already mentioned it. People usually think of a narcissist as someone who is arrogant, admires themselves and are easy to spot. A covert narcissist is described as someone who comes across as a "shy", nice, "sensitive", "sweet" person. They wear the mask of a nice person, but beneath the sweet exterior is someone who is boiling with intense rage. The savage wounds Bernadette subjected Kirsten to showed extreme anger and hate. Bernadette was described as screaming angrily when she stabbed Kirsten. Another example of Bernadette's mask slipping was her rage incident in the Ventura girl's school. A friend mentioned something about seeing a photo of Bernadette and Kirsten at a friend's house and everyone was smiling at Kirsten, but Bernadette was looking at her with anger, which was again another example of her true self which happened to be captured by a camera. Bernadette's ability to live happily after Kirsten's murder and her ability to "block it out of her mind easily" (her words) obviously shows she lacked empathy. The FBI agent who interviewed Bernadette stated she only cried for herself, not her victim. A covert narcissist is suggested to be incapable of understanding empathy and love.

At February 20, 2019 at 5:55 PM , Blogger Karen : ) said...

Other examples of a covet narcissists true form (anger/ rage) coming out is through jealousy and physical violence. It comes out during a "devaluated phase". Bernadette had serious enough jealousy issues that her parents sought professional help for it. Bernadette's murder of Kirsten was very violent -- two, two foot wounds down the back and front, which lacerated organs. The carotid artery in the neck was also hit. Maybe Kirsten saw through Bernadette's bullshit all along and Bernadette couldn't accept it, which is why she came up with the stupid plan to lure Kirsten out of her house under false pretences in an attempt to "get to know her".

At February 20, 2019 at 5:58 PM , Blogger Karen : ) said...

I forgot to mention above that covert narcissists place huge emphasis on how other people see them. It is considered one of the most important things to them.

At February 20, 2019 at 8:25 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Karen. The way you explained a "covert narcissist" I think it fits Bernadette's personality. Bernadette wore a "mask" & sadly Kirsten got to see the true, horrific colors of who Bernatte really is the night she lured Kirsten out under false pretenses, brutally butchered her to death witb a huge kitchen knife. Afterwards Bernatte put her "mask" back on as proven by her own behavior in the 6 months until the FBI cornered her and she had NO choice but to turn herself in.

Bernadette is not normal by any means. I still believe someone in that house knew what she did after the fact - there would have been too much blood all over not just her clothing and the car but also her hair, etc. To clean up so well so quickly to be able to go on a walk with her mom in such a short time after committing her heinous murder of Kirsten does not seem possible timewise.

Karen and Itsaboutime :

Interesting read. If you were to guess which would you think describes Bernadette? I know we are not qualified to do so, but in my opinion, this seems to chillingly describe Bernadette quite well which is why I chose to post it for discussion: (See link below):

"Unlike sociopaths, psychopaths are unable to form emotional attachments or to feel real empathy for others. Psychopaths tend to be aggressive and predatory in nature. They view others as objects for their amusement. Although they lack empathy, psychopaths often have disarming or even charming personalities. They are manipulative and can easily gain people’s trust. They learn to mimic emotions, despite their inability to actually feel them, and will appear normal to unsuspecting people. Psychopaths are often well educated and hold steady jobs.

Some psychopaths are so good at manipulation and mimicry that they have families and other long-term relationships without those around them ever suspecting their true nature. When committing crimes, psychopaths carefully plan every detail in advance and often have contingency plans in place. They will seem unflappable in a crisis."

I do not know if this is accurate or not and was wondering if anyone ever heard of Bernadette Protti going by/using such names? The lady who has the blog I'm referring to (link is below) states it is not Bernadette's new name but she's basing that on an email - with Bernadette's sister being an attorney I can't imagine assisting Bernadette with frequent name changes would be challenging. Sometimes I wonder if Bernadette had many names to muddy the waters - she is quite the deceitful creature as we know.

"My wife and I been doing some research ourselves and found your blog mentioning that you discovered her current identity – we are fairly certain that Bernadette changed her name to Paula Protti, but did she then change it to Paula Lawson?
We have no interest in making this information public or contacting the former Bernadette in any way, we’re just fascinated with the case and that she can be a successful person with this conviction on her record.

(see link below)

** Who is James?

"From another reader

Is this the woman you found? She looks very similar and her daughter is a dead ringer for Bernadette. I was unable to find anything about this woman before 1995. No relatives besides her children and husband ( and his family of course).
Also did you read in the paper about James? No movie about him yet but I thought you might be intrigued."

Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for the link.

Hi Anonymous,

Although I agree that Bernadette lacks empathy (her behaviour after murdering Kirsten is evident of that), I'm not so sure she is a Psychopath, but maybe she meets some criteria found in Psychopathy. Psychopath's are considered to be meticulous in their planning, highly intelligent and not emotional. For example, they are suggested to not experience fear or anxiety. Bernadette was reported to be very anxious about what other people thought of her and appears to have killed Kirsten because she feared her true nature -- someone who is sickly obsessed and mentally unstable -- would be exposed. She put a ridiculous amount of emphasis on what other people thought of her and was described as hyper sensitive, which are suggested to be a characteristics of covert narcissism (someone who appears to be nice on the surface, but is really very insecure and full of jealousy and rage and lacks empathy). A psychopath is described as being very methodical, but Bernadette's murder of Kirsten was very “sloppy”. She murdered her out in the open in front of someone else's door and she could have been easily caught. As we know, there was a clear enough eye-witness account of her that LE unfortunately failed to act upon. I obviously don't know for an absolute fact that she is a covert narcissist, but it describes her well.

Hi Anonymous,

No, I never heard of Bernadette going by the names "Paula Protti" or "Paula Larson". Was this apparently before she changed her name to Jeannette Butler? Although her sister has probably helped her, I'm sure she probably has better things to do than to continue helping Bernadette change her name. Is Traciy the author of the blog you posted a link to? Bernadette's court picture is very clear. It looks different than her "professional picture" that is often used by people who discuss this case.

At February 25, 2019 at 9:09 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Hi Karen
You make very good points about her insecurities and sloppiness. I agree with you, she may not be a psychopath - but that remorseless side of her her ability to pretend sure does make me think she was dangerous. Even Ted Bundy feared getting caught and went out of his way to try not to get caught and tried endlessly to stall his execution and he was afraid when that day came. Very complicated how bad people are. It's nust beyond my comprehension as a human being how fake Bernadette could be after committing such a brutal murder. I'll save my empathy for those who deserve it - Bernadette is unworthy of any in my opinion.

As for that link to the blog with that pic of Bernadette, I believe the person who does the blog put her name on it.
By the way I'm the same person who has a lot of empathy (for Kirsten, her family and all the other victims of Bernadette) but not for Bernadette once she killed innocent Kirsten for purely selfish reasons. I had called myself an empath on here before and we've communicated many times for a long time on this blog.

Hi Anonymous. How are you.

Judging from Bernadette's behaviour after the murder, she appears to meet some criteria found in Psychopathy, such as a lack of empathy and no regard for human life. I also agree that someone like that is dangerous. I know it's difficult to ascribe a “label” (for want of a better word) to a person whose behaviour diverges from the norm.Stabbing is so personal and the heinous wounds she inflicted suggests she had a deep vicious hatred for Kirsten. She saw Kirsten's shock and pain as she stabbed her, heard Kirsten's cries of horror as she savagely stabbed and sliced Kirsten, and was then able to block it out of her mind for months and “thrive” until she knew she was caught by the FBI. It's an exercise in futility trying to understand why people who have the emotional capacity of a rock do what they do. Another description of a covert narcissist is that humiliation is apparently the worst emotion they can feel. Wasn't fear of “public humiliation” something she said drove her to kill Kirsten, and when she was interviewed by the FBI agent, she was concerned about the possibility of going back to Miramonte and people's reactions after it was discovered she killed Kirsten. Fear of public humiliation and being very concerned with other people's perceptions fits Bernadette to a T.

I don't know why the Russian is cursing or perhaps something got lost in the translation on Google?

Hello Anonymous,

How are you? :) Well, I hope :)

I'm glad you had a nice Easter. Mine was fine, thanks.

I wouldn't be too concerned with the "Russian" comment. Let's assume that it was "lost in translation" and he/she didn't mean to come across as negative. There is a little activity lately on the blog, which has thankfully been pleasant.

I saw the comment above yours and I was wracking my brain trying to remember who "Kamaham" was. Kamaham used to be a commentator on this blog about 2/3 years ago and was pro Kirsten and agreed that Bernadette's jealous murder of Kirsten was vile. We had lengthy conversations about what Bernadette did and agreed she was cowardly and disgusting. I don't normally care to look at Bernadette's FB, but I wanted to try and make sense of the above comment and saw that she is now a supporter of Bernadette. I think that might have something to do with me. I had an alternative email and I used to converse with people here and from elsewhere about this case and different things. I wasn't always great at getting back to people immediately (like here) because....... life. It also wasn't my "official" email address (nor my official name) and I made my password ridiculously complicated which I have now forgotten (dumb, I know.) I know that sounds very stupid and ridiculous, but some people get pissed off or personally offended if you don't respond to them. We didn't argue or anything, so it was either my inability to get back to her that might have annoyed her, or she just changed her mind about the case which she is obviously entitled to do. I just think the later is strange considering the lengthy conversations we had about Bernadette, but she is obviously free to do as she pleases. There are other people I haven't gotten back to and if you read this -- It was nothing personal and I'm sorry if you were offended. However, I'm sure most couldn't give a s*** and simply moved on. You can still read Kamaham's comments around the blog, so maybe you know who I'm talking about. Good luck to her.

Hi Karen,

Yes, I'm doing well and am glad you are as well.

I certainly do not believe that you are in any way responsible to "Kamaham's" change of heart.

I can't understand how and why that individual, (Kamaham) would change from pro Kirsten to pro Bernadette - because the facts of the case remain unchanged. Bernadette brutally killed an innocent Kirsten out of jealousy because she coveted the life that Kirsten had.

How ironic that Bernadette and her sister both turned out to marry into and/or earn monies and now have material things.

However - it is definitely Karma that Bernadette will never have what she truly coveted --> "Status & Respect". I doubt she tells anyone the truth of what an evil person she truly is, after all, Bernadette's evil personality revealed itself at an age where a normal person knows right from wrong - Bernadette just did not care. It's only fitting that she will never have the "Status" she so craved - anyone worth knowing would surely distance themselves if/once they know the truth of what Bernadette really is on the inside.

Take care Karen and have a great weekend. :)

Kamaham looks very fickle. The contrast between the negative posts she has made here about Bernadette and the brown nosing of Bernadette/Jeanette on facebook is very funny, tbh. She's an amusing character and it's best to just wish her well.

Hi Anonymous,

My weekend was fine, thanks.

Did you read "Kamaham's" comments? I was surprised to realise that it's been 3 years or so since she commented. Where does the time go? :)

The disparity between the comments here and the comments on Bernadette's FB is interesting.....
Anyway, she is free to do whatever she pleases.

I recently came across News articles about Kirsten that I'm sure have been recently posted to the internet. Have you seen them? They gave more insight into Kirsten's personality and what was going on after the murder. I was aware that Kirsten was a good swimmer and athletic, but didn't realise how talented and well-rounded she was. She had many strings to her bow. It's very sad that such a talented teenager with so much promise was brutally murdered because Bernadette felt she couldn't measure up because of some sort of inferiority complex, she was jealous, and she disregarded how odd it was to lure Kirsten out under false pretences to try and "force" some sort of friendship.

Have you read the articles? I remember some people didn't understand the ending of the landscape suicide documentary. I think the new articles might help people understand it better. The end of the documentary with the girl on her bed talking on her phone and listening to "Memory" from the Musical "Cats" is supposed to be Kirsten. It was stated that she often chatted to friends on the phone, loved the Musical Cats and "Memory" was played at her funeral. It's so sad that Kirsten missed out on so many things that Bernadette got to experience after she had taken Kirsten's life in a brutal vicious way. Judging from her nonchalant behaviour after taking Kirsten's life, and her ridiculous blog and FB page, it's doubtful that she gives a fudge all of these years later.

Hi Karen.

I haven't really read read "Kamaham's" comments but from what you stated that person is a flake for flip-flopping and that person makes no sense.

RE: "Have you read the articles? I remember some people didn't understand the ending of the landscape suicide documentary. "

No, I have not come across/seen those articles. I did however feel that I do understand the ending of the Landscape Suicide video.

My understanding of the ending is that the song Memory from the musical Cats held special meaning to Kirsten, that she liked that song - so it was a respectful tribute to Kirsten by playing that song at the end of the video.

Also the message the actress portraying Kirsten at the end of that video, sitting on the bed, chatting on the phone on a bed that was in what appeared to be a teenager's room, even the actress holding the stuffed animal was crystal clear to me. That here was a very young girl, still a child really, who was simply doing what such young girls her age do talking on the phone, holding her stuffed animal, being happy spoke of innocence and normal behaviour. It also spoke loud and clear that this is the age the victim (Kirsten) will be forever - never getting to move forward and live her life because she was brutally murdered. :( This child never got a grow up and grow old as she lived her life. Forever frozen in time at such a young age.

It's heartbreaking for Kirsten and her family to think of all the things Bernadette stole from Kirsten when she savagely took her life: A Future! A husband! Children! Etc... It's disgusting and I fail to see how justice when served when Bernadette is allowed to have all the things she ripped away (literally) from Kirsten and her family.

Beyond Sad. :(

Hi Anonymous,

How are you?

Sometimes a person will change their mind and I understand that. However, it is flaky to go from one extreme to the other so easily. From discussing Bernadette's cowardly murder of Kirsten at length and expressing contempt for Bernadette, to complimenting Bernadette's mundane shitty recipes on her generic Face Book is very flaky and wishy washy. Anyway, she's insignificant and not worth acknowledging again.

The articles weren't about Landscape suicide (maybe that's not what you meant at all. Sorry. I'm tired :) The articles gave better insight into Kirsten's "all rounder" personality and other things going on at the time. It was just the "Cat's" musical bit that could help some people who didn't understand the ending of the Landscape Suicide documentary. However, I knew you understood it. I thought the ending was very touching. I like your interpretation of the ending too, although it's depressing to really think about.

I would never take up for Bernadette or whatever her name is now because what she did is unforgivable but why the hell are you going in so hard on her family? What did they do? What did her parents or sister do? They didnt kill anyone. That's a ridiculous statement to make that they should sue her sister. Good luck winning that case. I happen to be an attorney and I can 100% guarantee that would never even make it before a judge, let alone be a case that could be won. Her family have suffered as well.

Hi Anon October 19, 2.22PM,

Don't know what you're talking about. Do you mean Virginia who was evasive on the stand about whether or not she kept a large knife in her car to cut fruit and veg, and Bernadette just happened to find it which was reported to be stored between the seats? Yeah, there was deception going on there and that's why it's mentioned. I didn't write anything about her parents being sued and can't recall any other comments that did , so I don't know what you're talking about.

"That's a ridiculous statement to make that they should sue her sister"

??? Don't know what you're taking about. If you read all of the comments in full, you would understand that Virginia's story comes across as deceptive.

You do realize that was just a movie don't you and that it does NOT reflect the actual true story based on facts? You see, when they make movies they "dramatize" the story and add and take away things and even make things up - that is why you should actually get the real facts before you make up your mind and say "on your side" because you are tossing those words out so carelessly - without consideration or respect for the true victim(s) of this crime, Kirsten and her family. If you can make the time, you can find many links to the real facts about the horrendous crime committed by Bernadette on this site, there is a lot of information here, as well as people's opinions, some educated and some not educated. I really hope you do learn the real facts of this case and not merely base your opinion on a movie, Kirsten life was priceless and should not be judged by some "mere movie" that is not entirely factual (fiction), (claiming it is based on a real story is NOT the same as saying it the other category of writing which is known as nonfiction, which would be writing that is based on real facts).

So I am Watching the lifetime movie about this and googled to get more info. Disabled ...cant get out. Movies like this with my sheltered life ...blow me away. ..

BUT this thread blows me away even more.

Watching the movie I thought Bernadette snapped...Before I became ill I worked with mental health. I thought it was a temporary thing? Like... she snapped over the fear of being outed as weird. But then....this thread? Hard not to think it isn't Bernadette and family. The anger is scary.

I worked with people that committed crimes. They dealt with angry family and friends....they stayed away from it. They wouldn't search it out online. They had remorse. What happens when someone snaps. They feel quilty.

Thirty minutes ago I felt she snapped and probably has remorse now. Reading this thread? Not so sure.

Lastly? Saying that Kristin deserved it? They need help too.

This blog gave me more drama than the movie...wow.

At February 12, 2020 at 11:49 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Um.
Its 2020 - 5 years after these were posted so I am late to the party but I have to say something, anyway.
I'm 44 years old. I remember being 15 like it was yesterday. People say you will forget, but we don't. I remember the sick feeling in my stomach when I pissed off one of the girls in my clique, and how i would be so nervous of backlash that I would hide in the bathroom during lunch so I didn't run into them. Then a few days would pass and I was off the hook and some other girl was the target for pissing someone off.
It was AWFUL.
BUT!!!!
WE DIDNT KILL EACH OTHER.
Spare me the excuses of "it was so competitive", or "it was rich vs poor" THATS FUCKING HIGHSCHOOL!!!
GET REAL!
Do you know who I really felt sorry for?
The girl that was the outcast that went to the beat of her own drummer who was bullied and harassed while Bernedette just played innocent.
So not only did you KILL someone, but you were willing to let an innocent girl that was nothing but kind to you take the fall and be terrorised for it?
Really?
That's where I get hung up on it being a sociopathic act.
Because if it was just bullying and a "moment" of insanity, that confession would have come the minute that poor girl was being abused by the town. No heart! None!
I knew girls like that outcast girl too and I envied them and wanted to be THEIR friend because I admired that they didnt morph into this uniform ideal perfect elite teenager that everyone else was.
And you just threw that innocent girl under the bus, like it didnt even phase you.
THAT is a SOCIOPATH.
PASSING A LIE DETECTOR TEST IS A SOCIOPATH.
These things don't go away.
Sociopaths do NOT feel remorse or empathy and sorry to say but Jesus requires remorse. And He sees your heart, not your words so you can't lie to Him on judgment day.
Sociopaths have no empathy.
They feel like others pain is NOTHING.
That's why there is no remorse for Kirsten and no remorse for the outsider girl.
Until that happens, she deserves the responses she gets.
To expect the entire world to see the things she did, the way SHE does - is ALSO a sign of sociopathic behavior.
I studied that in college.
Is it likely she will kill again?
Yes.
Until she seeks help and is treated for her mental illnesses, she is only one itch away from doing it again. Perhaps she already has. She was a nurse? Who knows? But asking people to not be angry or not have forgiveness - is very disturbing ... and alarming as to why would one be so angry about others being angry at a murder?
As I said, even Jesus needs absolute repentance. And not words. He sees your soul and motives. So if you say "I'm sorry Jesus" only to get into heaven, He will know. You have to BE sorry. Feel sorry for what you have done and defending it, this many years later sure signals that there is still NO REMORSE.
That is all.

Stephanie hasn't been on here lately. Well from my gathering, Kirsten and Bernad ette were both " Snobs" and Bernadette was obsessed over Kirstens "Popularity". Kirsten was described as (Down to Earth) so to speak. Bernadette was Popular to, but she struggled harder to fit in, where it came Natural to Kirsten. Kirsten had an "Engaging" type of Personality, some said she was Snooty and so was Bernadette. Well we all have someone who is inferiorated by us. There is always someone quick to Judge. Kirsten her friends and Classmates loved her. Stephanie or someone tried contacting some of Kirstens old friends, Im sure they don't want to be bothered, and if they don't know you, I highly doubt they want to discuss this horiible tradgedy with you. Only a handful in Orinda would want to see Bernadette again. Majority don't want to, she became " Most Hated" in Orinda and Muramonte. Thats why she feared going back, she knew she was done. They still got revenge on her, they humiliated her at her Trial, and still to this very day they " humiliate" and harass her on the Internet. Im not feeling pity for her, she did it herself.

Can't say she wont enter "Heaven" God only knows, but she will dearly answer. She shouldn't be allowed to ever forget what she did to Kirsten. She took away a big Piece of her Parent's and brothers "lives". Kirsten was Energetic around the house ( playing Loud Music) and talking on the phone with her friends. No one deserves to die like she died. Her friends all loved her. She is deeply missed today. So whoever wants this stopped over Bernadettes kids, we didn't make the decision for her to murder Kirsten. Yes its been (many years) but people still hurt and haven't forgotten it. Bernadette brought her kids in the World let her figure it out on how to keep it from her kids. Maybe this is her karma for killing Kirsten, and throwing 2 innocent girls "under the bus". Sins upon the Parents are visited upon the children. So maybe she's paying for it that way. As long as she's alive we will discuss it.

May Kirsten shine like the star that she was in heaven. No envy in Holy Land. I do not know about her killer. But I do not think serving seven (7) years is enough for destroying the life of a talented, beautiful, young teen. The reason the killer gave is so bizarre. She killed her because she feared she would tell everyone she was weird? Did she think people would have thought differently if she killed her instead? She only made it worse. I do not know if this person has genuinely repented but I am sure the Costas' lives will never be the same. She destroyed a whole family. The pictures of the teen Bernadette and the current one are one and the same. You would have to be blind not to see the likeness.

You know this blog is barely active, so your point about "dissecting a 36 year old case year in year out" isn't accurate. It also shouldn't be surprising to you that people talk about this case, either here or anywhere else. Bernadette got a slap on the wrist for a cold blooded murder and was able to build a new life with a new name (which is rare), so yeah, a case like this is going to evoke interest, unsurprisingly.

B. You think this blog is pathetic, so why would you care if the blog owner updates it or not?

C. That is sad indeed, but so is your exaggerated anger at a small inactive blog that most people don't know about. It seems to be one person over and over again pretending to be different people who thrives off negative attention.

D. What high horse? Can you give an example? Am I not allowed my opinions, or not allowed to defend myself if people like you call me names? I'm not going to stop commenting because it pisses off you -- an internet stranger.

E. Like you're doing right now? Practice what you preach, hon. However, I think the arguments should be removed.

I didn't ask you, but thanks informing me that you're not Bernadette. It didn't enter my mind and I didn't give the impression that I thought you were Bernadette, but thanks anyway. Just in case you were wondering...…. I'm not Bernadette either.

The only "venom" here is coming from you. You are also keeping this blog you deem as "sad" active.

Why are you so angry with strangers on a blog that has no effect on your life whatsoever? That's a bit silly, isn't it. This isn't arguing or "bickering" with you, so please don't get your knickers in a twist. The interaction between us isn't serious, okay? Just a bit of a laugh.

Wow Karen, the glee with which you reply, you have been on this blog 4/5 years just desperate to impart your self righteous trash. I'm not angry just bemused at the hyena like cackling going on here. I am not "Greatest Ever" btw. You are on a high horse, desperate to shoot anyone down who disagrees with you. You're obnoxious and self righteous. I discovered this blog a few months back and couldn't believe that the murder of a young girl would be used as a platform for trolls and ego maniacs. I was merely expressing my opinion. Whether this blog stays active or not is of no consequence to me, I just feel for Kirsten's family. THIS IS NOT A BLOG HONOURING THEIR CHILD. The Bernadette comment was a result of the typical accusation on here when morons have no intelligent counter argument to respond to a difference of opinion. The murderer has been exposed but some people just can't let go, it's an obsession and I find it disrespectful.

Hi Anonymous,

4/5 years, eh? Doesn't time fly.

What glee? At the end of my comment I made it clear that I wasn't arguing with you and that the interaction between us isn't serious, so why are you annoyed? You definitely are angry. It's palpable in your comment. You are irrationally angry over a stranger's comment on an irrelevant blog that wasn't rude. Why is that? You complained about the blog being full of arguments and here you are staring an argument on an inactive blog you deem to be beneath you. That doesn't make sense.

So you are not the "Greatest Ever" person, yet you took it upon yourself to start an argument over an irrelevant comment that didn't concern you? That again is an example of your irrational anger. My comment to "GE" wasn't serious at all, yet here you are spitting nails. What a pointless use of your time.

I don't care if people disagree with me at all. However, coming here just for the purpose of vilifying Kirsten and calling people names isn't going to endear you to a person, is it? People who disagree here can't do so without calling names, but my responses are very tame. I don't curse people out of it or wish them harm like it has been done to me, so how does that make me self righteous or obnoxious?

I know you didn't discover this blog recently. Your overreaction leads me to believe that we have interacted on this blog before. If not, you need to do something about getting to the root of your anger issues if a stranger can "trigger" such a raged filled response from you over nothing.

Yeah, you expressed your opinion and no-one here is saying you can't/shouldn't , but you're clearly annoyed that I had the audacity to express mine.

This blog was originally set up to "honour Kirsten", but the arguing and trolling has made it toxic. Your latest comments have added to the toxicity.

What intelligent counter arguments have you responded with as opposed me -- the obnoxious moron? All you have done is name call and like I wrote above, add to the toxicity of the comments section. You say you feel for Kirsten, yet you're annoyed with my comments that have defended her with facts? That doesn't make sense. You're annoyed for a different reason. Probably because we have interacted in the past.

The murderer was exposed long before this blog. What is it that people aren't letting go and why does that concern you? Is there a set amount of time that a murderer can or can't be discussed. Like I wrote in my previous comment, t also shouldn't be surprising to you that people talk about this case, either here or anywhere else. Bernadette got a slap on the wrist for a cold blooded murder and was able to build a new life with a new name (which is rare), so yeah, a case like this is going to evoke interest, unsurprisingly.

You can accuse me of being whatever, but you would be better off not responding at all if it's going be more name calling because you don't seem to realise that you come across as the very things you are accusing me of.

Oh.. I see. Your latest angry response was a result of the comment written after mine. I don't care where you're from. If your comments are anything to go by, you are no doubt a calm and polite woman off the internet. Let me reiterate that our interactions are not serious and shouldn't anger you, or result in any pointless arguments. Chill out, okay?

Hey Karen, perhaps I have directed a little too much negativity your way. I have NEVER ever vilified Kirsten, I have followed the case and have felt nothing but compassion for her. I just think this whole blog is just not a fitting tribute, even the blog owner isn't very articulate. It basically comes across as entertainment, and no, we haven't communicated prior to these last few messages.

Hi. I'm just learning about this all today. A part of me does sympathize with Bernadette; she was just 15 yrs old, we have all been there where we are envious of someone more intelligent/beautiful/popular, etc. The other part of me thinks, this woman had it in her to murder another person, with a knife. That is a very intimate, personal kill. I think, that part of Bernadette lives on today. With her children's friend's mothers who are more accomplished, lovely, happy, etc. She is obviously a driven woman. That "drive" helped her murder. I have no feelings on whether Kristan was kind, nasty or ambivalent. I wonder about what lies inside Bernadette. When her kids friends succeed where hers fail, when another child is more beautiful or intelligent than her own. What goes through her mind? Does her husband fear to sleep? Does she deserve what we all would wish-our sins left in the past? Not to be help forever responsible for our actions as a teenager, is she a sociopath? An extreme narcissist? Has she, in any way, made reparations to the family, to her community? Did she earn her freedom?-Valkeriesshield@gmail.com

Karen you don not know anything. Stop pretending you know Kirsten.

Chuck, you don’t know a thing about Kirsten, how do you know she was a Bully? We’re you there? I hear she was a Bubbly Person who loved People. So you need to read better, and get facts Straight, and even if she was a ‘Bully’ still no right for Bernadette to “Murder her“. If it was your Daughter you wouldn’t say she had it Coming. Bernadette is still as Deranged as ever. I hear she is suffering from depression, well Karma finally got her. I’m sorry Bernadette is sick like that, but she did murder, and it’s catching up with her, her past is coming to haunt her. So (don’t feel sorry for Bernadette), feel sorry for Kirsten and her family. So teen girls get caddy, what teen girl doesn’t get caddy or smart mouthed, just a normal process in growing up, but how many teen girls kill? Only Psycotic ones.

Another thing, with all the things going on in the World today, such as this Virus that is killing People and the Blacks rioting, we shouldn’t even really be focusing on this 36 year old story. Decisions have been made, whether we like them or not, nothing can be done about it, I didn’t like the decision myself, but all this rehashing what should of been done won’t bring Kirsten back. Bernadette is paying for it, she has been outed, ( and hated by people she doesn’t even know), and she is suffering from depression, she will one day go before God and get the final judgement if she hasn’t on Earth. Can’t hide from God, she may end up in Hell, a place worse than Prison.

Wow...some crazy comments, going back nearly a decade. I remember seeing this TV movie in 1994, as I was a decade younger than the people in question. It was a good movie, but I felt sorry for Kirsten's parents, since the movie portrayed the murder victim in a negative light, while making the girl who killed Kirsten into a sympathetic character. That must have been hard on the parents of the deceased. I hope they have found peace.

Having said that, it's been over 36 years. People need to let it go. It's over and done with. Why bother tracking down any of the participants, or their social media accounts anyway? People in life deserve second chances, and it is what it is.

Yes it is over and done with, Bernadette is gone from Orinda, and she’s not going to return, if she does, it will only to see her mom, I doubt she will look up any former Classmates, they don’t want anything else to do with her, and they have moved on, (and so has Bernadette). Life Changes and so do we.

It’s best to leave Kirsten’s family and friends alone, also Bernadette’s family and former friends. I don’t think they want to rehash all this mess, Bernadette is sick like I mentioned earlier, not Physically sick, but you know... She is answering now for it. I just read she is sickly. It may not be true, but knowing all that has went on, I wouldn’t be the least bit Surprised. Someone mentioned contacting Kirsten’s friends, they want to talk about it they will come on here and talk about it, they more or less just want to move on, I’m sure they not forgot about her, but they don’t want to relive the nightmare. They’re not into morbid subjects to start with.

This is all crazy. 36 year old case and you still are living in it. All that is going on this Virus killing Worldwide and Racial killings over Black Lives Matters and blowing places up, this is far more serious, innocent people are getting killed, and you all want to talk about a 36 year old case. Bernadette is gone and never returning to Orinda, her own Mental health is not well at all,I’m not upholding Bernadette, she took an innocent life and should pay, put she has paid more than enough for all this.

Kirsten was loved dearly by everyone. I doubt she was a bully, maybe Cocky, but no bully. What about innocent children getting killed by the BLM and nothing is done, buildings being blown up, and you want to dwell on this and it has been Decades ago, very many years, don’t you think it’s time to move on with Life and worry about the Chaos going on Worldwide and America?
